STACY R.C. BERLINER is a litigator with Thacker Martinsek LPA , who represents corporate policyholders in obtaining recovery of insurance proceeds for their liabilities and losses relating to commercial liability policies, directors and officers liability policies, construction, property and business interruption policies, professional liability policies, and employment practices policies. Her experience includes assisting insureds in identifying and analyzing historical coverage, counseling clients in coverage disputes against carriers and brokers, assisting clients in policy interpretation, risk and litigation management, policy renewals, and successfully litigating against insurance carriers who wrongfully deny coverage. Ms. Berliner also represents employers in employment litigation and advises employers on compliance with Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA and similar state and local laws. In addition, she works with clients on developing strategies to resolve complex corporate, real estate, construction contract, and business tort matters. Ms. Berliner represents clients regularly in both state and federal courts and also has represented clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and other forms of dispute. She is a member of the Ohio State and Cleveland Metropolitan bar associations. Ms. Berliner earned her B.A. degree, cum laude, from the College of Wooster and her J.D. degree from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. STEPHEN W. FUNK is a partner with the Akron law firm of Roetzel & Andress, L.P.A., where he practices in business and public law litigation, land use and zoning law. Mr. Funk is board-certified in Appellate Law by the Ohio Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education. Prior to joining Roetzel & Andress, L.P.A., he was a trial attorney and senior litigation counsel with the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in defending against constitutional challenges to the policies and actions of federal agencies. He is a member of the Akron (past chair, Federal Courts Committee), Ohio State, Federal (Board of Directors, Northern District of Ohio Chapter) and American bar associations. Mr. Funk is a member of the advisory group for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, where he co-chairs the Committee on Civil Rules. Mr. Funk earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Miami University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School. JOSEPH F. SCOTT has been the chief assistant director of law in the City of Cleveland Law Department for more than nine years. Mr. Scott oversees civil litigation affecting the city of Cleveland, including constitutional torts, contracts, and state tort claims. Prior to his current position, he spent 15 years in private practice with emphasis in insurance defense and was the former law director for the city of Louisville, Ohio. Mr. Scott earned his B.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. degree from the University of Akron School of Law.
