EARL K. CANTWELL is an attorney with the law firm of Hurwitz & Fine, P.C., where he practices in civil litigation, commercial litigation and employment law litigation. He has lectured numerous times in his areas of expertise. Mr. Cantwell earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Canisius College and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Erie County (served on the board of volunteer lawyers' project), the New York State (Business Law Section) and American bar associations, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association. Hon. JOHN V. CENTRA is a graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and earned his J.D. degree from Ohio Northern Law School. Following his admission to the Bar in 1984, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Onondaga County until 1988. In 1989, he began a 10-year career as Town Justice for the Town of Dewitt. In that same year, Judge Centra entered the private practice of law with Carni, Centra & Rose from 1989 to 1991 and Primo, Primo, Centra & Kirwan, LLP from 1992 to 1999. In May 1999, Governor George Pataki appointed him to serve on the New York State Supreme Court in Onondaga County, and he was elected to that office for a term beginning in January 2000. While on the Supreme Court, Judge Centra served as Deputy Administrative Judge for the 5th Judicial District, Chairman of the Onondaga County Jury Board, and he was a Judicial Delegate to the Association of Justices of the Supreme Court of the state of New York. On October 6, 2006, Governor Pataki designated him to serve as an Additional Justice on the Appellate Division, Fourth Department, and, in 2008, Governor Spitzer designated him as an Associate Justice and a member of the Constitutional Court. Justice Centra is chairman of the Judicial Hearing Officer Selection Advisory Committee. Judge Centra is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Magistrates Association, and a member and Past President of the Onondaga County Magistrates Association. He previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Syracuse Landmark Theater from 1997-2004. Judge Centra is a frequent speaker at Syracuse University College of Law and Continuing Legal Education seminars. He was recognized for outstanding service to the legal community by the Syracuse Chapter of the National Italian American Bar Association. PAUL D. McCORMICK is a litigator and trial lawyer with the law firm of Goldberg Segalla LLP, with more than 13 years of experience defending corporations and insurance companies in cases involving motor vehicle accidents, premises liability, products liability, complex toxic tort liability and New York worksite injuries. He has been named to both Buffalo Law Journal's and Business First's 2007 Who's Who in Law, and Law & Politics magazine's New York Super Lawyers 2007. Mr. McCormick practices in courts throughout New York, including the state's appellate courts, and is admitted to practice law before the U.S. District Court for the Western and Northern districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. He is a member of DRI, the Defense Trial Lawyers Association of Western New York, the Western New York Trial Lawyers Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Erie County Bar Association. Mr. McCormick recently wrote " Countering Plaintiff's Attempts to Maximize Damages: Communicating with Jurors about Money," an article published in the September 2007 issue of DRI's For The Defense magazine. He is a frequent writer and panelist for continuing legal education seminars on such topics as no-fault insurance coverage, UM/SUM insurance coverage, trial tactics and premises liability.
