THOMAS C. BURNHAM fights to ensure disabled individuals receive all the benefits they are entitled to. He focuses on several areas of disability law including Social Security disability, supplemental security income, workers' compensation and veterans disability. Mr. Burnham received his B.A. degree from James Madison University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is admitted to the State of New York and accredited to prosecute claims for veteran’s benefits before the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. Burnham is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives (NOSSCR); the Bar Association of Erie County (BAEC); the New York State Bar Association; the Injured Workers' Bar Association; and the Workers' Compensation Committee, BAEC. DENNIS A. CLARY is a sole practitioner in Lewiston, New York, where he practices in the areas of state and federal workers' compensation, Social Security, personal injury and state and federal retirement. Mr. Clary is a member of the Disability Advocates Project of Western New York, the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives and the New York State Bar Association (sections on Elder Law and Workers' Compensation). Mr. Clary has lectured on legal writing for Social Security and disability advocates. He received his B.A. degree, with honors, and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is board certified in workers' compensation by the State of New York Workers' Compensation Board. MELISSA A. DAY began her practice defending workers' compensation insurance carriers and self-insured employers throughout the process of adjudicating workers' compensation claims: from administrative trials and hearings through the Appellate Division. She expanded her appellate and workers' compensation practice when she joined Special Funds. She has briefed more than 50 appeals. In addition to amassing 13 years of general workers' compensation defense experience, Ms. Day became an expert in workers' compensation subrogation issues and has appeared in numerous courts across New York defending motions and orders to show cause in connection with third-party claims for judicial approval nunc pro tunc and for apportionment of attorneys' fees. Ms. Day received her B.A. degree from Canisius College and her J.D. degree from Notre Dame Law School. She is the owner of the Linkedin Group, New York Workers Compensation Forum. She is a member of the Buffalo Claims Association, the Self-Insureds Association of the Niagara Frontier, the Insurance Women of Buffalo and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. PAUL K. ISAAC received both his undergraduate and law degrees from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A strategic life planner, Mr. Isaac's years of experience allow him to anticipate a plaintiff's long-term financial needs. Mr. Isaac also holds a life and health insurance license, as well as securities licenses in Series 6, 63, 65, and 7. He is a member of the Society of Settlement Professionals, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, the American Association of Justice (formerly ATLA), the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Medicare Set-Aside Planners, the New York State Bar Association, the Erie County Bar Association, and the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers. During his time as a practicing attorney, Mr. Isaac helped several clients obtain large settlements and favorable verdicts. He has retired from practicing law and is presently the president of Paramount Settlement Planning, LLC. In addition to assisting plaintiffs with the strategies for handling settlements from all types of personal injury lawsuits, Mr. Isaac is experienced in navigating the intricacies of complicated life care cases in which Medicaid and Medicare benefits must be preserved. He is also experienced in negotiating all types of liens associated with personal injury cases and their settlements ELLEN SHANAHAN BECKER has been employed with the firm of Williams & Williams, first as an associate, and since 2003 as a partner practicing exclusively in the field of insurance defense and workers' compensation. Williams & Williams focuses exclusively on representing carriers, self-insureds, and employers (both insured and uninsured) before the Workers' Compensation Board. Ms. Shanahan Becker handles both lay and medical testimony before the Workers' Compensation Board and all aspects of litigation, including appeals to the third department. Additionally, she negotiates and drafts final settlement agreements to end liability, both medical and indemnity, frequently encompassing Medicare set aside, annuity and third party settlement issues. Mr. Shanahan Becker is a graduate of Catholic University of America with a Bachelor of Arts in English literature, graduating summa cum laude in May of 1990, and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Ms. Shanahan Becker then graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo Law School with a Juris Doctorate degree in May of 1993, with the Robert J. Connelly Award for Trial Technique.
