HON. ROBERT E. GROSSMAN is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York. He was admitted to practice in 1973 and focused his law practice in the areas of bankruptcy, financial restructuring and bankruptcy litigation. Judge Grossman is an adjunct professor at Touro Law School. He also is a vice chair of the International Secured Transactions and Insolvency Committee of the American Bar Association, Section of International Law, and is a frequent speaker both in the United States and Europe. Judge Grossman earned his B.A. degree at Rider University and his J.D. degree at Brooklyn Law School. HON. ALAN S. TRUST is a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York. Judge Trust is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. He also is an adjunct professor of law at St. John's University School of Law. Judge Trust earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Syracuse University, and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from New York University School of Law. He is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy and insolvency issues. CHRISTINE H. BLACK, Esq., currently is the Assistant U.S. Trustee for the Eastern District of New York, Central Islip Division. Prior to Ms. Black's appointment, she served as a trial attorney with the Office of the U.S. Trustee for the Eastern District of New York. She also was in private practice where she represented debtors, creditors, creditors' committee, and Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 trustees in numerous bankruptcy and adversary proceedings, including discharge and dischargeability actions, claims allowance and preference litigation. Ms. Black is the author of "Chapter 7 Trustee's Ex Parte Request to Use U.S. Marshall to Search Debtor's Home for Undisclosed Assets Complies with the Fourth Amendment," published in the ABI Commercial Fraud Task Force Committee newsletter. MICHAEL J. MACCO is a partner in the Melville law firm of Macco & Stern, LLP, where he practices exclusively in the area of bankruptcy and insolvency law. Mr. Macco's firm represents financial institutions, banks, car refinance companies, various creditors as well as individual and corporate debtors and trustees. He graduated with a B.A. degree from St. John's University and a J. D. degree from Brooklyn Law School. Mr. Macco has been the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee for the Eastern District of New York for approximately 22 years, as well as the Chapter 12 Trustee for the Eastern District of New York. He is the former chairman of the Bankruptcy Committee for the Suffolk County Bar Association and has lectured on bankruptcy and creditor issues before various professional organizations, including the New York County Lawyers Association, the Suffolk County and Nassau County bar associations, the Practising Law Institute, the National Business Institute and the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees. Mr. Macco is a volunteer for the Suffolk County Pro Bono Association and the Assistance for Lawyers Program for the Suffolk County Bar Association. RICHARD L. STERN is a partner in the Melville law firm of Macco & Stern, LLP. He has been practicing bankruptcy law exclusively for more than 25 years. He also is very active with the Suffolk County Pro Bono Bankruptcy Project and volunteers his time on a regular basis. Mr. Stern has represented hundreds of individuals and numerous corporations before the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. He has served as a U.S. Standing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustee for the Eastern District of New York since 1992. Mr. Stern was elected as dean of the Suffolk Academy of Law, as chairman of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law Committee, and he serves as a member of the board of directors of the Suffolk County Bar Association. Mr. Stern earned his B.A. degree at The Ohio State University and spent his junior year studying in England at the University of Surrey. He earned his J.D. degree at Hofstra University School of Law. MODERATOR - LESLIE A. BERKOFF is a partner with Morritt Hock & Hamroff LLP, where she serves as the co-chair of the firm's Litigation and Bankruptcy practice groups. Ms. Berkoff concentrates her practice in the areas of bankruptcy and restructuring litigation, and corporate workouts. She also represents a variety of corporate debtors, trustees, creditors and creditor committees both nationally and locally. In addition to her practice, Ms. Berkoff has served as a mediator, court appointed examiner and guardian ad litum in several bankruptcy cases. Prior to joining Moritt Hock Hamroff & Horowitz LLP, she served as a law clerk to the Hon. Jerome Feller, U.S. Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1991 to 1993; and to the Hon. Allyne R. Ross, Federal Magistrate Judge in the Eastern District of New York, from 1990 to 1991. Ms. Berkoff is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of New York and Connecticut. She earned her B.A. degree from the State University of Albany and her J.D. degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where she was the editor in chief for the Hofstra Labor Law Journal.
