KATE GILMAN is a principal in the firm of Ellsworth, Gilman, Johnson & Stout, CPAs. As a founding partner of Ellsworth & Gilman CPAs, Ms. Gilman was instrumental in the growth of the firm. In 2008, she orchestrated the successful merger of her company with Johnson & Stout CPAs. Ms. Gilman specializes in all taxation areas of real estate development, homebuilders, construction, not-for-profit organizations, multi-state tax, international tax, and section 1031 like-kind exchanges. She teaches classes in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada for other CPA firms and not-for-profit organizations regarding the new IRS Form 990. Ms. Gilman is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants, and a graduate of the 2006 class of Leadership Las Vegas. She currently is the president of the Board of Directors for the Community Counseling Center of Southern Nevada and is a board member serving on two committees with Habitat for Humanity-Las Vegas. Ms. Gilman is also a classroom instructor and a board member seving on two committees for Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada, Inc. She is a key supporter of the United Way of Southern Nevada (UWSN) and a charter member of both their Women's Leadership Council and Young Philanthropists Society, Alexis de Tocqueville Society. Ms. Gilman is also a member of the UWSN Earn It-Keep It-Save It! Collaborative. LOREN A. PIEL is a managing partner of Mercer & Piel Ltd. in Las Vegas. He is a transactional attorney with more than 21 years of experience in his legal practice and more than 9 years experience managing his law firm. He also has served as serving as acting chief operating officer of a small public company from 2001-2003. Mr. Piel has extensive experience working with nonprofits, both as a member of the board of trustees of nonprofits, and serving as counsel to nonprofits. He has served as a board member of D.A.R.E., Inc., Speedway Children's Charities and For the Least of These. Mr. Piel earned his B.S. degree in political science from Oklahoma State University, and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. BERNA L. RHODES-FORD is managing shareholder of Rhodes-Ford & Associates where her practice areas include the representation of business organization from formation to sale, including advice on day to day legal issues; corporate structuring; and mergers and acquisitions, with an emphasis on healthcare providers. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rhodes-Ford worked as a senior corporate counsel for one of the nation's largest occupational healthcare companies, where she was directly responsible for all employment law matters affecting the company. As an attorney with both private law firm and in-house experience, Ms. Rhodes-Ford is uniquely qualified to represent healthcare providers and corporate clients. Ms. Rhodes-Ford has served as a law clerk to the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Ninth Circuit. She has also served as legislative assistant to the Honorable Eddie Bernice Johnson, U.S. House of Representatives, 30th District. Ms. Rhodes-Ford has lectured and written on her areas of practice. She earned her B.B.A. degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University, her B.A. degree in psychology from Southern Methodist University and her J.D. degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Her memberships include the National Association of Women Business Owners, Southern Nevada Chapter (immediate past president); American Bar Association (member, Health Law Section, Business Law Section); American Health Lawyers Association; and Healthcare Financial Management Association.
