PETER J. BAKARICH is a shareholder in the Paramus law firm of Shoobe and Bakarich, P.C., where he practices in the areas of estate planning law, probate law, federal and state taxation law, and pension and profit-sharing law. He frequently speaks on probate topics. Mr. Bakarich wrote "Sell a Home - Save a Bundle" and "IRS Provides Further Guidance on Selling a Home and Saving Taxes," New Jersey Law Journal, Vol. CL, No. 9, December 1, 1997 and Vol. CLI, No. 10, March 16, 1998, respectively; and "Estate Planning with Lifetime QTIP Trusts," The Bergen Barrister, Vol. II, No.3, May-June, 1995. He also has been an instructor for the will drafting and probate practice attorney skills and methods courses for the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education. In 2003, Mr. Bakarich was elected as a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. He is a member of the Passaic County, the Bergen County, the New York State, the New Jersey State and the American bar associations; the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County (past president); and the Greater New Jersey Estate Planning Council (past president). Mr. Bakarich earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the Catholic University of America; his Diplom degree from the Eberhardt-Karls Universiteit, Tuebingen, Germany; his J.D. degree from Rutgers University School of Law - Newark; and his LL.M. degree from the New York University School of Law. RAYMOND J. FALCON JR. is a principal of Falcon & Singer P.C., a law firm with offices in Montale, New Jersey and Scarsdale, New York. In his estate planning practice, Mr. Falcon works with clients and their financial advisors, accountants and other professionals to identify their estate planning goals. Once the goals are identified, he develops tax-advantageous structures by selecting from a wide variety of estate planning vehicles. He also concentrates in planning for families that have members with special needs and persons with disabilities, with their unique set of circumstances and concerns. Mr. Falcon assists plaintiff personal injury attorneys, their clients and structured settlement advisors in utilizing self-settled special needs trust to hold settlement proceeds in order to avoid loss of needs-based government benefit by the permanently-disabled injured client. His practice also spans a broad range of corporate, commercial, and general business matters. Mr. Falcon earned his B.A. degree from Columbia College of Columbia University and his J.D. degree from Yale University, School of Law. He is admitted to practice in the states of New York, Florida, and New Jersey and before various federal courts. PALERMO-SMITS is a partner of the law firm of Wells, Jaworski & Liebman, LLP, where she is the chairperson of the Tax, Trusts, and Estates Department. Her estate practice is concentrated in the fields of tax and estate planning, and trust and estate administration. She also advises and assists private clients with their charitable goals and real estate needs. Ms. Palermo-Smits designs and implements estate plans with respect to the inter-generational transfer of family wealth, including family business interests; the reduction of gift, estate and generation-skipping transfer taxes; estate liquidity needs; and charitable gifts and bequests. She has extensive experience drafting and reviewing various estate planning documents. Ms. Palermo-Smits supervises the administration of numerous estates and trusts. She is responsible for post-mortem planning and tax advice, preparation of federal and state estate and inheritance tax returns, and attention to family dynamics and concerns. She is experienced in handling Internal Revenue Service audits of estate and gift tax returns and estate and trust litigation matters. Ms. Palermo-Smits earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from William Paterson University and her J.D. degree from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.
