Understanding the critical impact of title law on those transactions is priceless in achieving that goal. L. SCOTT BERKOBEN is the principal in the Westwood law firm of L. Scott Berkoben, P.A., a full-service law firm. Mr. Berkoben has extensive real estate experience, having served as Westwood's land use commissioner for seven years, and as chair of the Planning Board and as a member of the Zoning Board. Mr. Berkoben wrote Westwood's Master Plan and served as attorney for Westwood's Parking Authority. He has conducted hundreds of commercial and residential real estate closings. He is a former municipal prosecutor and public defender for several towns in New Jersey. Mr. Berkoben received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Fairleigh University, where he has served as a lecturer and history and political science teacher. He received his J.D. degree from Seton Hall University. He is a member of the Bergen County and New Jersey State bar associations. SCOTT K. SUMNER is New Jersey State Counsel for Westcor Land Title Insurance Company in Red Bank, New Jersey, where he serves as underwriting counsel to the company's agency network. Prior to joining Westcor Land Title Insurance Company, Mr. Sumner served as counsel for Chicago Title Insurance Company and Ticor Title Insurance Company and was formerly a practicing real estate attorney with the law firm of Liebowitz, Liebowitz & Stern in Englewood, New Jersey. He is a current lecturer for ICLE seminars, speaking to real estate attorneys. Mr. Sumner is admitted to the New Jersey State Bar, the District Court of New Jersey and the New York State Bar. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Arizona and his J.D. degree from New York Law School.
