CHERIE L. ADAMS is a principal member of Adams Stern Gutierrez & Lattiboudere, LLC, in Newark. Ms. Adams is the president of the New Jersey School Board Association, Counsel of School Attorneys. She is a member of the School Law Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the New Jersey School Attorneys Association and the National School Attorneys Association. Ms. Adams has devoted her practice to the representation of management in school law, labor relations and employment law matters since 1983. She handles employment litigation on behalf of private and public entities, as well as counseling to clients on a variety of employment-related and educational matters, including policy development and implementation, internal grievance and complaint mechanisms, special education, residency issues, employee and student rights and responsibilities. Ms. Adams regularly represents clients in administrative proceedings, state and federal court trial, and appellate litigation. She frequently speaks at seminars regarding labor and employment issues and education topics, and has provided training to administrators and employees on a variety of educational issues. Ms. Adams' legal experience is supplemented by her service as an adjunct professor of education law for the graduate program at Seton Hall University and her role as a board of education member in Belmar in Monmouth County. She earned her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Rider College and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. JOANNE L. BUTLER is a partner in the Morristown law firm of Schenck, Price, Smith & King, LLP. She is a member of the National Council of School Attorneys and the School Law Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. Ms. Butler is a past vice president and current trustee of the New Jersey Association of School Attorneys. She has focused her practice in the areas of education law, and labor and employment law since 1988, representing numerous boards of education in the capacity of general counsel and special counsel. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Butler was a law clerk to the Honorable Clarkson S. Fisher, former Chief Judge of the District Court of New Jersey. She frequently lectures on topics relating to school law and employment law to educators and legal professionals. Ms. Butler earned her B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York and her J.D. degree from the Catholic University of America. ATHINA LEKAS CORNELL is an attorney with Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper, P.C. Her practice is primarily devoted to representing boards of education in a variety of areas, including special education, personnel and labor negotiations. Ms. Cornell serves as both general counsel and special education counsel to boards of education throughout the state. Her practice also consists of representing management in employment and labor matters including litigation of sexual harassment, discrimination, wrongful discharge, breach of contract and whistle blower claims. Ms. Cornell is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, and before the District Court of New Jersey and the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. She represents boards of education through all court levels. Ms. Cornell has lectured on special education, school law issues and employment topics, and provides training to administrators, as well as school staff. She is a member of the American Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association and Union County Bar Association. Ms. Cornell earned her B.A. degree from Skidmore College and her J.D. degree from Seton Hall University School of Law.
