ANN N. BUTENHOF practices in the areas of elder law, estate planning and special needs trusts. Prior to entering private practice, she was the directing attorney of the Senior Citizens Law Project of New Hampshire Legal Assistance, a statewide nonprofit law firm. Ms. Butenhof is an active member of the New Hampshire Bar Association's Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate Section (chair, 2004-2005), the Special Needs Alliance (a national, invitation-only network of lawyers dedicated to Disability and Public Benefits Law), the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), and the New Hampshire Estate Planning Council. She chaired the formation committee of the New Hampshire Chapter of NAELA, served as its first president and currently serves on its board. Ms. Butenhof earned her B.A. degree from Lake Forest College, and both her J.D., magna cum laude, and social work M.S.S.A. degrees from Case Western Reserve University. She earned the certified elder law attorney "C.E.L.A." distinction from the National Elder Law Foundation in March 2005, and has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. JOHN S. KITCHEN practice areas include probate, trust, gift and estate taxation and disability law. He has drafted guardianship petitions as well as powers of attorney, wills and trusts, including revocable trusts, special needs trusts, family gift trusts and charitable trusts since 1978. Mr. Kitchen has offices in the Manchester area as well as in the Lakes Region. He graduated from Williams College and Boston University School of Law and earned a J.D. degree and LL.M. degree in taxation. Mr. Kitchen has served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of New Hampshire and also as a member of the Board of Governors of the New Hampshire Bar Association. He has given presentations concerning guardianship, trust, tax and disabilities law at state and national conferences, including the New Hampshire Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Conferences, New Hampshire Family Support Conferences, and at national conferences held by the National Guardianship Association, The Arc, The National PLAN Alliance and the Special Needs Alliance, as well as, a disabilities tax law presentation at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the National Disability Institute. JANELLE LAYLAGIAN is currently general counsel for and supervising the work of the Estate Recovery Unit at New Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services. She earned her B.S. degree in Aeronautical Science and Masters of Aeronautical Science degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and her J.D. degree from Franklin Pierce Law Center in 1999 and was admitted to the New Hampshire Bar that same year. Prior to joining New Hampshire's Department of Health and Human Services, Ms. Laylagian served as staff attorney to the New Hampshire Probate Court Administrative Office and as a law clerk for the New Hampshire Superior Court. She is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association's Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate and Real Estate sections. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Laylagian was an airline consultant working as an engineer on the development of advanced passenger and military aircraft, as well as leading research and development efforts to enhance airport security on behalf of the Federal Aviation Administration. JAN P. MYSKOWSKI is a shareholder with Gallagher Callahan and Gartrell, where he has more than 15 years experience practicing in the area of trusts and estates and has developed an additional focus on special needs and elder law. He represents high net worth individuals and elderly and disabled clients in matters of preservation and transfer of wealth, gift and estate tax planning, special needs trust planning, estate and trust administration, business succession planning, and planning for public benefits such as Medicaid. Mr. Myskowski is a member of the New Hampshire, American, Massachusetts and Boston bar associations. Prior to joining Gallagher Callahan and Gartrell, he chaired the Trust and Estate Planning Group at the Manchester law firm Wiggin & Nourie. He is a graduate of the College of William & Mary's Marshall-Wythe School of Law, and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. NELSON A. RAUST is a partner in the Concord law firm of Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP, where he concentrates much of his practice on elder law and disability issues, assisting seniors and their families with issues relating to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, guardianships, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. He also prepares special needs trusts for families with adult or minor children with special needs. Mr. Raust is a frequent speaker on estate planning, Medicaid planning, special needs trusts and probate issues. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Rochester, his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law and his LL.M. degree from Boston University School of Law. Mr. Raust is a member of New Hampshire (chair, Elder Law, Estate Planning and Probate Section ) and Manchester bar associations, and the New Hampshire Estate Planning Council, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He also is a founding member and incorporator of the New Hampshire Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).
