HON. WILL R. CROCKER is the presiding judge of probate with the Johnston County Clerk of Superior Court. HON. NANCY LORRIN FREEMAN was elected as the Wake County Clerk of Superior Court in 2006. As judge of probate, the clerk has exclusive original jurisdiction over matters relating to the probate of wills and the administration of estates, including appointing personal representatives, auditing the accounting of those representatives, and removing them from office if necessary. The clerk also presides over many other legal matters including adoptions, incompetency and guardianship proceedings, condemnation of private lands for public use, and foreclosures. Prior to becoming Clerk of Court, Judge Freeman worked in the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, where she represented the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. She served as a research assistant to former Chief Justice Burley Mitchell and as an Assistant District Attorney in Wake County. Judge Freeman earned her J.D. degree at the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill. HON. ARCHIE L. SMITH III is the presiding judge of probate with the Durham County Clerk of Superior Court. He was elected Clerk of Superior Court for Durham County in September, 2002, and took office on December 2, 2002. Prior to the Superior Court, Hon. Smith practiced law in Durham County for more than 26 years. He earned his B.A. degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree at North Carolina Central University School of Law. RICHARD J. SNIDER JR. is a sole practitioner in Mebane, North Carolina. His main areas of practice are trusts and estates, taxation and business law, and he is a previous lecturer in his areas of expertise. Mr. Snider is certified as a specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the North Carolina State Bar. He is a North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission certified mediator in Superior Court, District Court, and before the Clerk. Mr. Snider earned his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from Cleveland State University. He is admitted to practice law in North Carolina, and before the U.S. District Court, Middle and Eastern districts of North Carolina, and the U.S. Tax Court. Mr. Snider is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association (Estate Planning and Dispute sections) and the District 15A Bar.
