JOY C. BELK NCCP is a paralegal for North Carolina Prisoner Services, Inc., where a few of her responsibilities include conducting client and witness interviews, preparing interview and file summaries, examining and preparing a variety of legal documents, providing assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and reviewing trial transcripts. Ms. Belk handles all aspects of a case from initial client contact to trial preparation and participation. She earned her B.A. degree from East Carolina University and completed her Paralegal Program at Meredith College. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association - Paralegal Division Board Member, a liaison for NC Leap and co-chair for the North Carolina Bar Association Paralegal Division and Legal Aid of North Carolina Seminar. SARAH H. KAUFMAN is a paralegal in the law firm of Ellis & Winters, LLP, where her cases frequently focus on toxic torts, primarily in the federal court system. She handles large document litigation and is responsible for all aspects of the case from initial client contact to trial preparation and participation. Ms. Kaufman teaches in the Meredith College Paralegal Program, including teaching a civil litigation specialty course and law office management course. She earned her B.A. degree from East Carolina University and her paralegal certificate from Meredith College. Ms. Kaufman earned her C.P. designation in 1987 from the National Association of Legal Assistants. She is a member of the Paralegal Division of the North Carolina State Bar Association. JENNIFER D. MALDONADO is a partner in the Raleigh law firm of Yates, McLamb & Weyher, L.L.P. Ms. Maldonado's practice is concentrated in the defense of personal injury, construction and coverage litigation. She is an experienced litigator, having tried cases in both federal and state court. Ms. Maldonado is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys and the Defense Research Institute. She earned her B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her J.D. degree from Campbell University, School of Law. DEBORAH L. SHUTT is a paralegal in the litigation department of Williams Mullen. Ms. Shutt has earned the designation of North Carolina Certified Paralegal (NCCP) from the North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification and has 27 years of experience as a litigation paralegal. Her practice areas include commercial litigation; employment law litigation; trademark, environmental and product liability litigation; appellate and certificate of need litigation within the state, federal and administrative court systems of North Carolina. Ms. Shutt previously served as a guest instructor at the Meredith College Paralegal Program on the topic of electronic discovery. She is a member of the North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys Paralegal Division and the North Carolina Bar Association Paralegal Division. TONI WAITS STRAPP is a litigation paralegal with the Raleigh law firm of Young Moore and Henderson, P.A. She is assigned to a litigation team that specializes in business litigation, construction law, product liability, and professional liability cases. In her work as a paralegal, she has been responsible for all aspects of the case from initial client contact to trial preparation and participation. She formerly taught an introductory course for the paralegal program at Carteret Community College. Ms. Strapp received her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Northern Arizona University and her A.A.S. degree, in paralegal technology, with honors, from Carteret Community College. She has been a litigation paralegal for 17 years. Ms. Strapp is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association (member, Legal Assistant's Division ). NELL K. WAGNER is a paralegal in the Raleigh law firm of Knott, Berger & Miller, LLP, where she conducts medical research; legal and factual research; investigations; and client interviews. Ms. Wagner also prepares pleadings, memoranda and briefs; witness lists and exhibits; trial notebooks; demand and settlement documents; and deposition schedules and summaries. She handles all aspects of the case from initial client contact to trial preparation and participation. Ms. Wagner coordinates and manages document production; locates and interviews witnesses and experts; organizes pleadings and trial exhibits; assists lawyers at trial, gathers and reviews medical records and maintains general client contact. She earned her B.S. degree from North Carolina State University and earned a paralegal certificate from Meredith College. Ms. Wagner is an adjunct professor at Meredith College where she teaches law office management. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association Paralegal Division.
