LEAH BROKER is a partner in the Asheville law firm of Broker & Hamrick, P.A., where her practice focuses on Social Security disability and workers' compensation. She graduated with honors from the NCCU School of Law in 1997. Ms. Fairbairn worked at Pisgah Legal Services for six years and then joined the firm of Ganly, Ramer and Strom, later the Law Office of Cynthia Strom. In 2006, she and Ms. Chitwood formed Chitwood & Fairbairn PA. Ms. Fairbairn has written extensively and given presentations to her attorney peers on ethics, Social Security, Medicaid, and other government benefits programs. She is an active member of various bar associations and organizations committed to assisting disabled people, including NOSSCR and NCATL. (Asheville location) RACHEL PICKARD is a sole practitioner in Gastonia, North Carolina, who has represented Social Security disability claimants for 29 years in Gastonia, North Carolina. She is a graduate of the University of Arizona, cum laude, and the UNC School of Law. Ms. Pickard is a former legal aid attorney and past president of LSSP, Inc. She is a founding member of the Disability Advocacy Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice and a member of the American Association for Justice. Ms. Pickard is licensed in all three Federal District Court districts in North Carolina. Currently, she serves on the North Carolina State Bar Specialization Committee for Social Security disability law and is herself a Board Certified Social Security Disability Specialist. (Charlotte location) GEORGE C. PIEMONTE earned his B.S. degree from the University of Florida and his J.D. degree from Nova University. He was one of the first lawyers in North Carolina to become a North Carolina State Bar Certified Specialist in Social Security disability law. Mr. Piemonte is a member of the North Carolina State Bar's Specialization Committee for Social Security disability law, the Board of Directors of the Disability Advocacy Section of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, chairs the Lawyers' Assistance Committee of the Disability Advocacy Section and serves on the CLE Committee of the Disability Advocacy Section. His principle areas of practice are Social Security disability, veterans disability, railroad disability and workers' compensation.
