PAUL T. FLICK is a managing partner in the Raleigh law firm of Jordan Price Wall Gray Jones & Carlton, PLLC, where he practices in the areas of ethics, litigation and secured creditors' issues. Mr. Flick lectures regularly for National Business Institute and other professional groups on ethical issues and areas related to his practice. He is a member of the Wake County and North Carolina bar associations and the North Carolina State Bar. Mr. Flick earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, and his J.D. degree from Wake Forest University. ADAM M. GOTTSEGEN is a partner with the Raleigh law firm of Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, LLP, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of bankruptcy and creditors' rights. Mr. Gottsegen represents a variety of businesses in the lending and financing industry who seek to protect their contractual rights and security interests in both real and personal property. His clients include banks, credit unions, and consumer and commercial lenders. Mr. Gottsegen regularly represents creditors in collection proceedings, claim and delivery hearings, foreclosure actions and bankruptcy matters. He has extensive experience appearing before the bankruptcy courts for all federal districts in North Carolina and broad litigation experience at the state court level. Mr. Gottsegen has written articles in his areas of practice, including "Bankruptcy Court's Interpretation of Disposable Income Has Unanticipated Effect on Unsecured Creditors," Legal Insights, October 2007. He is a member of the North Carolina (Bankruptcy Section) and Wake County (Young Lawyers' Division; Chairperson, WCBA-YLD Ask-A-Lawyer, 2004) bar associations. Mr. Gottsegen earned his B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University and his J.D. degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. GERALD H. GROON JR. is a partner with the Raleigh law firm of Smith Debnam Narron Drake Saintsing & Myers, LLP, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of collections and civil litigation. Mr. Groon has completed the requirements for certification in the field of Creditors' Rights Law by the American Board of Certification. He is the former North Carolina state chair of the American Collectors Association Members' Attorney Program, a member of the Commercial Law League of America and an associate member of the International Association of Commercial Collectors, Inc. Mr. Groon earned his B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree at Campbell University. JAMES MARSHALL SHELTON is an attorney in North Carolina, where his practice consists of representing debtors in consumer and business bankruptcy cases, representing chapter 7 trustees and other parties in bankruptcy litigation, and representation of parties in out of court workouts. He is admitted to practice before the Eastern, Western, and Middle districts of North Carolina, as well as the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Shelton is a member of the American, North Carolina (Young Lawyers Division and Business and Bankruptcy sections) and Greensboro bar associations and the North Carolina State Bar. Mr. Shelton currently serves on the Bankruptcy Section Council. He has previously spoken for the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Advocates for Justice, National Business Institute and NC LEAP on topics including avoidance action defense and prosecution, real estate transactions in bankruptcy cases, the interaction of domestic and bankruptcy law, and the treatment of LLCs and similar entities in bankruptcy cases. Mr. Shelton currently prepares the Middle District of North Carolina Case Update for the Bankruptcy Section newsletter the Disclosure Statement. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree from the Ohio Northern University College of Law. Mr. Shelton also is a North Carolina Board Certified Specialist in Consumer Bankruptcy Law.
