RONALD D. FARRIS maintains a statewide and regional practice through Farris Law Group PLLC. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in public policy administration from The University of Southern Mississippi and his J.D. degree at the University of Mississippi School of Law. Mr. Farris has been an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the International Council of Shopping Centers, Mississippi Economic Council, Mississippi Home Builders Association, the Mississippi Mortgage Bankers Association, the Mississippi Bankers Association, the Mississippi State Bar, and the Hinds/Capital Area and Madison County Bar Associations. A former state senator, Mr. Farris has participated in multiple educational and community service programs at both the state and local levels. He serves as an instructor each year at multiple legal and educational seminars, centering on issues relating to real estate, commercial and residential development, business, and governmental relations. Mr. Farris' practice centers on the full range of issues relating to real estate, including ownership and title, sale and purchase, easements and servitudes, residential and commercial development, distressed property and workouts, construction, and litigation. He also handles business and entity formation, mergers and acquisitions, contracting and leasing, and dispute resolution and dissolution. He represents national, regional and local retailers; developers; land owners; brokers; financial institutions and businesses; as well as governmental entities. Mr. Farris has been an integral team member on projects including shopping malls, strip centers, big box retail, hospitals, clinics, special medical facilities, office and professional developments, and residential subdivisions. Mr. Farris regularly secures necessary approvals, zoning changes and permits from local and state governments, as well as unique partnerships with governmental entities to fund infrastructure, such as tax increment financing and public improvement districts. He has handled all manners of real estate related litigation, including annexation, rezoning and other administrative appeals and foreclosures. CHRISTOPHER M. HOWDESHELL is a member in the law firm of Pittman, Howdeshell, Hinton & Hightower, PLLC. He practices in the areas of eminent domain, real estate litigation and general litigation. Mr. Howdeshell was previously a law clerk for the 10th Chancery Court District and has lectured on boundary law and litigation for The Mississippi Surveyors, and on road and access law for National Business Institute. He is a member of The Mississippi Bar, the South Central Mississippi Bar Association and the International Right of Way Association. Mr. Howdeshell earned his B.A. degree from Furman University and his J.D. degree from the University of Mississippi. DANIEL B. SMITH began serving with the Mississippi Department of Transportation in 1997. He was appointed as director of the Right of Way Division in 2004. Currently, Mr. Smith's duties include oversight of acquisition of real estate for MDOT and the management of eminent domain litigation on a statewide basis. Prior to serving the Mississippi Department of Transportation, Mr. Smith engaged in private practice of law from 1982 to 1994, in Hattiesburg, with concentrations in real estate, bankruptcy and criminal practice. He earned his undergraduate degree at Belhaven College and his J.D. degree from the University of Mississippi Law School. Mr. Smith is a member of the section on Natural Resources, Energy and Environmental Law of The Mississippi Bar.
