IAN M BARTALOS has worked at Harris McCausland, P.C. since 1999 and has practiced law there since graduating from the University of Kansas, School of Law in 2000. Harris McCausland's main area of expertise is insurance defense and defense litigation, as well as representing insurance companies and large businesses in direct actions against them. Mr. Bartalos is licensed to practice in both state and federal court in Kansas and Missouri. He is involved in all portions of the litigation process, from pretrial preparations to arguing matters on appeal in both the state and federal courts. Mr. Bartalos also does a significant amount of work with insurers and their claim representatives providing coverage opinions and case evaluations, when matters are pre-suit. He has been lead counsel on approximately fifteen jury trials in Kansas and Missouri and has participated in nearly the same number as assistant counsel. Of these cases, Mr. Bartalos has represented individual defendants in actions filed against them, as well as direct actions against insurers, their representatives and captive attorneys. In 2008 and 2009, he was named a Missouri-Kansas "Super Lawyer--Rising Star." In 2009, Mr. Bartalos spoke at multiple continuing legal education courses to attorneys, discussing the topic of Bad Faith/direct actions against insurance companies and defense litigation of insurance claims/actions against insured parties. He also provided such presentations directly to insurance companies. In 2010, Mr. Bartalos spoke at three national conferences, concerning 'Strategies of Litigation Success.' He was also named "Best of the Bar" by The Kansas City Business Journal. MATTHEW E. BIRCH is a partner at the law firm of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman, Chartered, where he his areas of practice include general tort, medical negligence and class action litigation. Mr. Birch has served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Dean Whipple, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. He has been selected as a 2010 "Super Lawyer--Rising Star" and named in the "Up and Coming Lawyers" by the Missouri Lawyers Weekly. Mr. Birch is a graduate of Baker University and earned his J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, Kansas Association for Justice and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association. ROB BRUER is a partner with Bruer, Wooddell & Harrell, P.C., in the Kansas City office. After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law, he began his civil litigation practice at a large local firm. Since then, Mr. Bruer has continued to focus his civil practice specifically upon the representation of individuals and families in actions involving automobile collisions, medical malpractice, insurance disputes, premises liability, products liability and wrongful death. He is a member of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, serves on its Board of Governors, and is the Chairperson of its Continuing Legal Education Committee. DAVID R. MORANTZ is an attorney at the law office of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman, Chartered. He focuses his practice on medical negligence, products liability and other tort actions, including cases against daycare providers for injuries and deaths of infants. Mr. Morantz has participated in several jury trials for the firm and practices as an aggressive yet civil litigator. Prior to law school, he worked as a newspaper reporter for The Associated Press and for the Omaha World-Herald. Mr. Morantz focused his reporting on exposing shortcomings in municipal services. He won several awards in recognition of outstanding reporting and writing. While in law school, Mr. Morantz helped teach reporting and editing at KU's William Allen White School of Journalism. He earned his B.S. degree from the University of Kansas and his J.D. degree from the University of Kansas School of Law, where he was an articles editor on the Kansas Law Review and was honored as the top student in the area of intellectual property during his final year of law school. Mr. Morantz is admitted to practice in Kansas and Missouri. He is an active member of the Kansas Association for Justice and enjoys his membership in the Earl E. O'Connor American Inn of Court. LAUREN PERKINS ALLEN is an associate at the law firm of Foland, Wickens, Eisfelder, Roper & Hofer, PC. She is a former partner of a law firm specializing in products liability litigation and other complex litigation matters where she worked diligently to secure verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients. Ms. Allen currently serves on the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association's Board of Directors and the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys' Board of Governors. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and earned her J.D. degree from the University of Missouri School of Law. Ms. Allen is a member of the American, Missouri, Kansas, Kansas City Metropolitan and Johnson County bar associations. She also is a member of the American Association for Justice, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association.
