KELLEE P. DUNN-WALTERS is underwriting counsel and commercial manager for Chicago Title Insurance Company, covering Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri. Ms. Dunn-Walters previously was in private practice and has been in the title industry for more than 20 years. She is a member of the Kansas Bar Association (member, Title Standards Committee; Real Property, Probate & Trust Section), the American Bar Association (member, Real Property, Probate & Trust Section), the American Land Title Association and the Commercial Brokers Association. Ms. Dunn-Walters also is a member of the Kansas City Commercial Real Estate Women (KC CREW). A graduate of Washburn University of Topeka, she earned her J.D. degree from the University of Kansas School of Law. ROBERT J. EDWARDS is an attorney at the law firm of Polsinelli Shugart PC, where his main areas of practice include creditors' rights, loan enforcement and creditor bankruptcy representation, intellectual property litigation and trade secrets litigation. An experienced litigator, Mr. Edwards represents clients in state and federal courts throughout the nation. Mr. Edwards has substantial experience handling complex commercial litigation, specializing in loan enforcement and other lender related litigation, as well as all forms of trademark litigation. He is admitted in Missouri, Kansas and New York. He is also admitted in, and has argued appeals before, the Eighth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals, the Missouri and Kansas Courts of Appeals and the Missouri Supreme Court. Mr. Edwards spent the first three years of his career practicing commercial litigation with the Rogers and Wells firm (now Clifford Chance) in New York, New York. He earned his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1993. His undergraduate degree in commerce and accounting, also from the University of Virginia, provides Mr. Edwards with an understanding of financial accounting invaluable to lender related litigation. He is a member of the Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, Defense Research Institute, Kansas City Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (Board of Directors), and the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation (Walk for the Cure Team Leader). JESSICA E. MERRIGAN is an attorney at Lathrop & Gage, LLP, where she focuses her practice on environmental law. Her experience includes representing clients in administrative negotiations, with both the Environmental Protection Agency and state agencies, advising clients regarding their regulatory requirements and assisting in litigation of environmental claims, including contribution claims under the federal Superfund law. Ms. Merrigan has also assisted a utility co. in defending an administrative challenge to a Clean Air Act construction permit. She works with federal environmental laws and regulations, including storm water management and planning under the Clean Water Act, reporting requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund), the Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA), and statutory and regulatory requirements of the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA). Ms. Merrigan has assisted in the application and permitting process for solid waste facilities in both Missouri and Illinois. She has advised regarding the water protection requirements of Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri and Kansas, including local requirements regarding storm water management for various localities in Missouri and Kansas. Ms. Merrigan works on environmental issues involved in real estate transactions, including review of environmental assessments; evaluation of potential environmental liabilities associated with real estate transactions including those created by CERCLA; and evaluation of eligibility for federal and state Brownfields assistance programs. She has assisted in the environmental due diligence for a $2 billion and separate $274 million project, as well as numerous smaller commercial real estate transactions. Ms. Merrigan earned her B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of San Diego and her J.D. degree from the Washington University School of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association (Environmental, Energy and Resources Section), the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (KCMBA L.E.A.P. Board of Directors), the National Association of Environmental Law Societies and the Kansas City Tomorrow Leadership Program (sponsored by the Kansas City Civic Council).RONALD S. WEISS is a partner in the Kansas City law firm of Berman, DeLeve, Kuchan & Chapman, LLP. He practices in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Mr. Weiss wrote the chapter on general executions in The Missouri Bar Handbook and Attachments on Debtor/Creditors' Rights, and the chapter on bankruptcy in The Missouri Bar Practical Skills Handbook. He also is a contributing writer to The Missouri Bar Bankruptcy Practice Handbook. Mr. Weiss has been a lecturer for The Missouri Bar seminars and for the National Association of Credit Management in the Kansas City Bar Young Lawyers Trial Practice Program. He has served as chair of the Midwestern Bankruptcy Institute. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, the American Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, the Commercial Law League of America and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. Weiss earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Missouri. ROBERT J. WISE is a partner in the law firm of Wise & Anderson, LLC, where his main areas of practice are landlord/tenant law and commercial law. He primarily represents property owners and managers. Mr. Wise earned his B.S. degree from the University of Missouri and graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia Law School. He is a member of the Missouri Bar. He has previously lectured for the National Business Institute, and has been a speaker at continuing legal education classes sponsored by the Missouri Bar, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, and on television and radio. He is a frequent speaker to property owners and attorneys on landlord-tenant law, collections, Fair Housing, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and related areas. In 1997, he authored legislation which contained the first major changes in Missouri landlord-tenant law since 1939. He has been on the Associate Circuit Court Committee and on the Circuit Court Advisory Committee by appointment of the presiding judge of the Jackson County Circuit Court. He is presently a member of the Missouri Leadership Council of the National Federation of Independent Business, the Creditor Rights Asset Protection organization, and the executive director of Mid-America Crime Free, Inc.
