DAVID COOPER owns and operates The Knee Center, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cooper is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and the Jefferson Orthopedic residency, where he worked closely with Dr. Phil Marone, the Philadelphia Phillies team orthopedic surgeon. He assisted in the care and surgery of several professional ball players; he also was the house physician at Veterans Stadium for many years. Dr. Cooper entered private practice as a general orthopedic surgeon in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. For four years, he performed all types of orthopedic surgery, including neck and low back laminectomies and fusions along with extensive open and closed fracture care. In 1980, Dr. Cooper was recruited by Geisinger to open the orthopedic department at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, where he was one of the first orthopedic surgeons in the valley to introduce knee replacements and arthroscopic surgery. In 1981, he opened the Knee Center in Wilkes-Barre, to further specialize in the care and treatment of knee and lower extremity disorders. Dr. Cooper has personally performed more than 6000 arthroscopic surgeries, ligament repairs and knee replacements. In terms of actually performing surgeries, as opposed to having interns and residents handle the cases, he is one of the most experienced knee surgeons in the world, as well as being board-certified for life by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the highest honor that any medical specialist practicing in the United States can obtain. As a sought after speaker by many national organizations, Dr. Cooper has spoken at the national conferences of the American Bar Association and the Risk Insurance Management Society national meetings in New Orleans and Atlanta. He has been a frequent guest lecturer at Binghamton University, Kings University, and the University of Scranton. RACHEL L. ROMAN is an attorney with The Simon Law Firm P.C., where she concentrates her practice on personal injury and wrongful death litigation, including medical malpractice, product liability and premises liability. She is a member of The Missouri Bar, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association of Justice, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, The American Association of Nurse Attorneys and the Women's Lawyers Association of Greater St. Louis. Ms. Roman received her law degree from Saint Louis University and is licensed to practice law in the states of Missouri and Illinois and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. During law school, she earned a certificate in health law and was a lead editor for the Journal of Health Law. Ms. Roman also worked as a law clerk for Simon Passanante P.C. for nearly two years, as well as an extern for the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri in the Healthcare Fraud and Abuse division. Prior to law school, she earned her undergraduate degree in nursing from the Loyola University in Chicago. Ms. Roman practiced as an emergency room registered nurse for two years in Chicago. GERALD J. WERTEL D.C. is a practicing chiropractic physician in St. Louis since 2001. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic with a second Bachelor's Degree as well as the Doctorate of Chiropractic. As a chiropractor, his main focus is on musculoskeletal injuries that do not require surgery; such as: acute and chronic back pain, neck pain, sports injuries, work injuries and motor vehicle accidents. Dr. Wertel has been on the Board of Directors of the Missouri State Chiropractor's Association for five years and has also been a contributing editor for the Chiropractic Therapy Assistant textbook. His office, South City Injury and Rehabilitation, is located on Chippewa Street in South St. Louis City. TRACY L. ZUCKETT is a principal in the Medical & Health Care Litigation group of Moser & Marsalek, P.C. She concentrates her practice in professional liability defense and risk management for health care professionals and institutions. She also assists health care providers in licensing and other regulatory matters. Ms. Zuckett has represented clients in matters before state and federal courts in Missouri and Illinois at the trial court level and on appeal. She delivers presentations to colleagues on topics related to legal ethics and civil trial tactics and to medical care providers on topics related to risk management and participation in the defense of medical liability claims. Ms. Zuckett is a member of the Missouri Bar and the Illinois State Bar Association. She serves on the Board of Directors of The Missouri Organization of Defense Lawyers, on the Executive Committee and as treasurer of the Lawyers Association of St. Louis, as chair of Publications for the Medical Liability and Health Care Law Committee of DRI and is a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. Ms. Zuckett received her B.A. degree from Marietta College and her J.D. degree from Saint Louis University School of Law.
