LAUREN EPSTEIN is a an attorney with the law firm of Bernstein Shur, where she is a member of the Tax, Trusts & Estates Practice Group. She focuses her practice on estate planning and elder law. Ms. Epstein works closely with clients to develop a comprehensive estate plan specifically tailored to their needs. She also assists aging clients, and their families, develop long-term care plans, which may include qualifying for the MaineCare program, or other public benefits programs for which the client may qualify. Ms. Epstein can also assist disabled individuals to retain their eligibility for public benefits through the use of supplemental needs trusts established either by the individual (first-party supplemental needs trusts) or by the disabled individual's family (third-party supplemental needs trusts). She is also experienced in all aspects of guardianship and conservatorship matters, and probate administration for large and small estates. Ms. Epstein is a member of the Pro Bono POA Panel established by Legal Services for the Elderly, the Maine State Bar Association (Board Member of the Board of Governors), the Maine State Bar Association (Vice Chair of the Elder Law Section), and the VNA Home Health & Hospice (Vice Chair of the Board of Directors). She graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and from the University of Maine School of Law with honors. In law school, Ms. Epstein was selected to be a member of the Maine Law Review, where she served as the case note/comment editor. KAREN G. KINGSLEY is an attorney with the law firm of Troubh Heisler, P.A., in Portland. She focuses her practice in the area of ethics and professional responsibility, while maintaining a general practice in real estate, probate and family law. Over the years, she has given numerous CLE presentations to attorneys, paralegals and law office managers in the areas of ethics and professional responsibility, including the grievance process and fee arbitration matters. Prior to her present position, Ms. Kingsley served for 16 years as assistant bar counsel at the Board of Overseers of the Bar. She earned her B.A. degree from Middlebury College and her J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law. Ms. Kingsley is a member of the Maine State Bar Association (member, Family Law and Women's Law sections). WILLIAM C. KNOWLES is a partner in the law firm of Verrill & Dana LLP, where he maintains a general civil trial practice. He has tried over fifty cases in federal and state courts, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Mr. Knowles has published articles in the Maine Bar Journal and has lectured extensively, including presentations at the University of Maine School of Law, the Peoples University of China and the Georgetown Law Center. He has received the 1999 Justice Louis Scolnik Award, presented by the Maine Civil Liberties Union, and the 2002 Annual Award, presented by the Disability Rights Center. JUSTIN D. LeBLANC is a shareholder with the Portland firm of LeBlanc & Young, PA, where his practice focuses primarily on estate planning, estate and trust administration, adoptions, guardianships and Medicaid planning. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Vermont and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law. Mr. LeBlanc is a member of the Cumberland County, Maine State and American bar associations. He serves on the Probate Rules Committee and as the Vice Chair of the Maine Probate and Trust Law Advisory Commission.
