MARY KATHRYN BRENNAN is an attorney specializing in elder law with the Law Office of Smilie G. Rogers, PLLC. She is a graduate of Colby College and earned her J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law. Ms. Brennan joined the Law Office of Smilie G. Rogers, PLLC after she left Maine Legal Services for the Elderly, Inc. (LSE), where she began her legal career in 2006, starting as a law clerk in the Medicare part D unit, and moving on to a position as a staff attorney from October 2006 through December 2011. During her time with LSE, she represented elders in a variety of matters before Maine Superior, District and Probate courts; the Maine Department of Health and Human Services; and the Office of Medicare Hearings. Ms. Brennan has a specialized knowledge about the medical and financial eligibility requirements for state and federally funded long term care options available in Maine in institutional settings and in home care settings. She is a member of the Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging Caregiver Support Program Advisory Committee, the York County Elder Abuse Task Force, the United Way of York County Community Review Team, the Maine Attorneys Saving Homes panel and the Elder Law Section of the Maine State Bar Association. CAITLIN LOCASCIO-KING is an attorney in the solo law practice, Law Office of Caitlin LoCascio-King, LLC. She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross and her J.D. degree from the University of Maine School of Law, with the Pro Bono Publico Award. Ms. LoCascio-King is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys; Maine State Bar Association (Elder Law Section, Consumer & Financial Institution Law Section, Bankruptcy & Reorganization Section); and the Androscoggin County Bar Association. She concentrates her practice on the ever-connecting areas of elder law, estate/MaineCare planning and probate with consumer law, creditor's rights and bankruptcy. In 2010, Ms. LoCascio-King was appointed to the Maine Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. She is active in prison ministry, the University of Maine School of Law Mentor-Mentee Program and has been involved with the Maine Veterans' Homes for over 12 years. JOHN M. WHALEN is a sole practitioner in the Lewiston law firm of John M. Whalen, P.A., where he practices in the areas of business, probate, estate planning and taxation law. He was an instructor on federal income taxation at St. Joseph College in Maine. Mr. Whalen earned his B.S. degree from Boston College, his J.D. degree from the University of Maine and his LL.M. degree in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He is a member of the Androscoggin County and American bar associations, and the Maine State Bar Association.
