JAN I. BERLAGE is a partner with the law firm Gohn, Hankey & Stichel, LLP, where his practice focuses on general business litigation, ranging from commercial disputes to bankruptcy and civil rights litigation. He has experience in trials, arbitrations, mediations and administrative hearings in both federal and state court, including arguments before the Maryland Court of Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. Prior to private practice, Mr. Berlage served as law clerk to the Hon. E. Stephen Derby, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland. He has taught pretrial litigation practice at the University of Maryland, School of Law, and served on the Board of Governors for the Maryland State Bar Association. Mr. Berlage is a member of the Connecticut, New York, Maryland, and District of Columbia bars, as well as numerous federal courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. He has chaired numerous committees for the ABA Young Lawyers Division, including its Ethics and Professionalism, Bankruptcy, and Individual Rights and Responsibilities committees. Mr. Berlage earned his B.A. degree, with honors, from the Wesleyan University and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. SCOTT C. BORISON is a member of the Legg Law Firm, LLC, where he represents consumers in financial transactions including a bankruptcy practice that is limited to the representation of debtors. He has represented thousands of debtors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 proceedings. Mr. Borison is the former Maryland state chair for the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He has been a panelist for seminars on the issues of bankruptcy and related topics before the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, National Conference on Aging, Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland and MICPEL. Mr. Borison's recent articles on bankruptcy issues include "Bankruptcy and Estate Planning" and "At Least Three Things Every Family Law Attorney Needs to Know About Bankruptcy." He has provided testimony before the Maryland Legislature on bankruptcy related topics including in favor of increases to the Maryland exemptions. Mr. Borison has complemented his representation of debtors by also representing consumers/debtors in Maryland, New York, California, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey and North Carolina in individual consumer law cases, and has lead class counsel before state, federal and bankruptcy courts. He also lectures on consumer law topics. Mr. Borison is a member of the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland, the Frederick County Bar Association, the National Association of Consumer Advocates and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys. He earned his B.A. degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Borison is admitted to practice law in Maryland, the District of Columbia and the 1st, 3rd and 4th Circuit courts. JODIE E. BUCHMAN is an attorney with DLA Piper. Ms. Buchman has experience in working on a wide variety of debtor-creditor disputes (including loan workouts, collection matters and lender liability matters), UCC disputes (including breach of warranty matters, lien priority contests and matters relating to the enforcement of remedies by a secured creditor) and real estate disputes (including receiverships, fraudulent conveyance matters and title insurance matters). Ms. Buchman is admitted to the District of Columbia, Maryland, U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and the U.S. District for the District of Maryland. She is a member of Maryland State, American and District of Columbia bar associations and the Bankruptcy Bar of Maryland. Ms. Buchman earned her B.A. degree from Bucknell University and her J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law.
