RICHARD K. ABRAHAM is a partner in the law firm of Abraham & Bauer, LLC in Towson, Maryland. His practice focuses on elder law, including asset preservation, asset management in a fiduciary setting, medical assistance plans, medical assistance applications, guardianship and special needs planning; estate and trust planning; and probate. Previously, Mr. Abraham served as outsourced counsel to area hospitals for guardianship matters and consent to treatment cases. He is a frequent lecturer on those topics, among others, at McCormick Spices, Johns Hopkins Hospital and University, St. Joseph's Hospital, the pre-retirees of Baltimore City government, the Social Security Administration, Northrop Grumman, Bethlehem Steel, and the Baltimore and Bethesda Kiwanis Clubs. Mr. Abraham is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association (Elder Law and Estate Planning sections); The Baltimore County Bar Association, where he has chaired different committees; The National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA); and The Geriatric Assistance Information Network (GAIN). He also is a past member of the Baltimore City Bar Association and its Executive Committee. ANDALMAN is a partner in the law firm Andalman & Flynn, P.C. He handles disability benefit and related claims such as Social Security, federal disability retirement and long term disability/ERISA. Mr. Andalman has presented at NOSSCR, AAJ (formerly ATLA) and MTLA conferences on disability benefits. He is the past chair of AAJ Social Security Disability Section, co-chair and founder of the MTLA Section on Disability Benefits Law, co-chair of the MTLA Trial Reporter and past-president of the Maryland ACLU. Mr. Andalman earned his B.A. degree from Stanford University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School. KEVIN F. BRESS is a managing member in the law firm of Hodes, Pessin & Katz, P.A., where he practices in the areas of estate administration and planning, trusts, and elder law. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Baltimore, where he teaches in both the graduate tax program and at the law school in the areas of estate taxation and elder law. Mr. Bress co-authored the books Guiding Those Left Behind in Maryland and A Will Is Not Enough in Maryland. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, and both his master's and J.D degrees from the University of Baltimore. Mr. Bress is a member of the National Academy of Elder Attorneys and the Maryland State Bar Association (member, Section on Estates and Trust Law; Section on Elder Law). ELIZABETH FORGOTSON GOLDBERG is a National Elder Law Foundation certified elder law attorney (CELA) practicing in Washington, DC and Maryland. She prepares wills, trusts and powers of attorney for many area citizens, and aids families in probate of their estates. In her estate administration work in Maryland, Ms. Goldberg recovered over $90,000 in 2001 from the Client Security Trust Fund on behalf of a defrauded senior's estate. She serves as trustee and fiduciary for individuals in Maryland and the district at their own request and that of their parents. As an active member of the Fiduciary Panel of the Probate Division of the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, Ms. Goldberg represents families seeking guardianship and defends the rights of wards across the city. Her success in defending a client in a Medicaid recovery suit earned mention in the Washington Post (February 2006 "Getting Stuck with the Tab"). Ms. Goldberg earned her B.A. degree from Duke University and her J.D. degree from George Washington University National Law Center. She served as law clerk to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Jean Dwyer at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and law clerk fellow at the General Services Administration Board of Contract Appeals. Ms. Goldberg is an active member of the District of Columbia Bar, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys. SHANNON L. HAMMOND graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Ms. Hammond is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), the Baltimore County Provider Council, the Elder Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Estates and Trusts Section of the District of Columbia Bar. She taught Strategic Planning for Aging and Asset Protection at the College of Notre Dame's Renaissance Institute and presents regularly at the Social Security Administration's Pre-Retirement seminar on the topic of Legal Preparedness and Estate Planning. Before joining Frank, Frank & Scherr LLC in 2009, Ms. Hammond focused her practice in the areas of estate and trust administration, estate planning, and guardianship administration. She now focuses primarily in the area of Medicaid planning. KANDACE SCHERR is partner in the elder law, estate and special needs planning firm of Frank, Frank & Scherr LLC.
