THOMAS E. CLAY is an attorney in Louisville, Kentucky, where he practices in the areas of general civil litigation, criminal defense and employment discrimination. He has been practicing law for more than 35 years. Mr. Clay speaks extensively for National Business Institute on various litigation topics. He is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, the Kentucky Bar Association, the U.S. District Court, Eastern and Western Districts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Mr. Clay earned his B.A. degree from Centre College and his J.D. degree from the University of Louisville. STEVE SCHROERING graduated from the University of Kentucky, College of Law in 1988. He began his career in the Jefferson County Commonwealth Attorney's Office as a felony prosecutor and tried cases ranging from theft to capital murder. Mr. Schroering handled numerous and varied felony offenses including robbery, rape and drug cases, as well as complex white collar and political corruption investigations. In 1991, Mr. Schroering was voted Jefferson County Prosecutor of the Year. He was employed as a special prosecutor with the attorney general's office in 1990 and tried a number of cases in various counties across the state. In 1995, Mr. Schroering opened his own practice and since that time has handled a number of high profile cases for the defense. He earned the Frank E. Haddad, Jr., Young Lawyer Award from the Louisville Bar Association in 1997. He has defended many cases at trial including murder, drugs, corruption and theft. Since 1998, Mr. Schroering has been an adjunct professor at the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law, teaching trial practice to third year students. He has also lectured for the Louisville Bar Association continuing legal education program in the areas of criminal law, courtroom evidence and ethics. R. KENT WESTBERRY is a member of the law firm of Landrum & Shouse LLP, where he practices in the areas of white collar defense, criminal defense, trial practice and civil litigation. He is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky, a past adjunct professor of law at the University of Louisville (advanced trial advocacy) Brandeis School of Law and a Life Member of the U.S. Court of Appeals Conference for the 6th Circuit. Mr. Westberry also has served as a special justice on the Kentucky Supreme Court. He earned his B.A. degree from Centre College of Kentucky and his J.D. degree from Salmon P. Chase College of Law. Mr. Westberry served as president of the Kentucky Bar Association in 2004-2005. KENT WICKER is a founding partner in Reed Wicker PLLC, a law firm based in Louisville, Kentucky. His practice concentrates on business litigation and white-collar criminal defense. Mr. Wicker practiced complex civil and criminal litigation at Hale and Dorr, a national law firm in Boston, Massachusetts, and Greenebaum, Doll & McDonald in Louisville before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky in 1995. At the U.S. Attorney's Office, he served as First Assistant U.S. Attorney and Criminal Division Chief, and he also tried criminal fraud and public corruption cases. Mr. Wicker has taught courses in corporate and white-collar crime and in trial practice at the University of Louisville's Brandeis School of Law, and he taught trial practice at the Department of Justice's National Advocacy Institute. In March 2006, he testified before the U.S. Sentencing Commission on behalf of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Mr. Wicker earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Duke University and his J.D. degree, with honors, from Harvard Law School, where he served as a director of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, the nation's oldest student-run legal services organization. Mr. Wicker is listed in Best Lawyers in America for his work in antitrust litigation, and in Kentucky Super Lawyers for his work in white collar criminal defense.
