MATTHEW E. BIRCH is a partner at the law firm of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman, Chartered, where his areas of practice include general tort, medical negligence and class action litigation. Mr. Birch has served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Dean Whipple, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri. HEYMACH, Ph.D., M.D., M.B.A., is president of Physicians' Health Care Consulting, Inc., where he brings strategic insights and communication skills to projects involving, medical staff issues and challenges, medication in physician-to-physician and physician-administration crises. Dr. Heymach has had extensive experience in forensics dealing with toxic tort, environmental contamination and personal injury-medical malpractice where he has worked with both defense and plaintiff attorneys. Dr. Heymach is a fellow of both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has published in both the renal and pulmonary literature (as well as the engineering literature) and has extensive experience in end-of-life challenges/ethics and the care of the homeless. He was a pro bono medical director of a homeless-shelter for two years. Dr. Heymach received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from City College of the City University of New York, and a master's and doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to receive his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College and a masters in business administration from the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. ROBERT D. KINGSLAND JR. is an attorney with the law firm of Dempsey & Kingsland, P.C., where he practices in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and automobile accidents and injuries. Mr. Kingsland has tried numerous medical malpractice cases to verdicts. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, a current and longstanding member of the Board of Governors of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and a former member of the board of directors of the Jackson County Law Library. He earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from Georgetown University. MICHAEL J. MOHLMAN is an attorney with The Sly James Firm in Kansas City, where he focuses his practice on the areas of plaintiff's personal injury, auto accidents/truck wrecks, nursing home negligence, and medical malpractice litigation. Mr. Mohlman has litigated in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Texas, California, Massachusetts and Wisconsin. He is the former chair of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association's Nursing Home Negligence Committee and former president of Missouri Watch, a consumer rights organization dedicated to protecting the rights of individuals from wealthy special-interest lobbies. Mr. Mohlman is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, The Missouri Bar, the Kansas State Bar Association, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the American Association for Justice. He wrote the Missouri Bar Civil Procedure Deskbook chapters on interrogatories and depositions, requests for production of documents and requests for admission. Mr. Mohlman earned his B.A. degree from Harvard University and his J.D. degree from the University of Kansas Law School, where he wrote for the University of Kansas Law Review and was invited to join the Order of the Coif. LAUREN E. TUCKER McCUBBIN is a shareholder with Polsinelli Shughart, PC in Kansas City, Missouri. Ms. Tucker McCubbin's practice is focused on insurance coverage issues, commercial litigation, and health care related disputes. As part of her practice, Ms. Tucker McCubbin advises clients regarding conflicts of interest and ethical issues associated with the legal defense provided by insurance carriers to their insureds. With respect to insurance coverage, Ms. Tucker McCubbin's experience extends to medical professional negligence insurance, general liability insurance, directors and officers insurance, errors and omissions coverage, financial institutions fidelity bonds and crime policies, workers compensation policies, automobile liability policies, property insurance, public entity liability insurance, excess and reinsurance, and other types of specialty lines coverage.
