JOSHUA M. MCCAIG is an attorney in the law firm of Polsinelli Shughart PC, where he practices in the areas of health care litigation, medical malpractice, intellectual property and technology. Mr. McCaig's practice focuses on working with hospitals, physicians, and other health care providers against claims of medical malpractice. His background in biology and physiology are an invaluable asset in developing the defense of complex and high stakes medical malpractice claims. Mr. McCaig has been successfully trying more than a dozen cases in the state courts of Michigan and Missouri, as well as frequently participating in alternative dispute resolution proceedings on behalf of his clients. In addition to medical malpractice litigation, he is experienced in other areas of health care law, including general negligence claims, and the litigation of regulatory and compliance matters under HIPAA and EMTALA. Mr. McCaig is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned his B.A. degree in biology, philosophy and theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville; his M.S. degree from Ithica College; and his J.D. degree from Ave Maria School of Law, where he served as vice president on the Moot Court Board. Mr. McCaig is admitted to practice in Michigan, Missouri and Illinois, and is a member of the U.S. District Court, Western District of Missouri. ARTHUR K. SHAFFER is an attorney with Intellectual Property Center, LLC, where he has built a solid foundation for his legal career with a B.S. degree from Kansas State University. Using electrical and computer engineering principles, he developed control systems for use in the largest and most demanding projects around the world, including the new Hong Kong airport. After achieving success as an engineer, Mr. Shaffer earned his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, with an emphasis in the areas of litigation and protection of intellectual property rights. Since then, he has utilized his legal skills as an attorney in roles within the government, a Fortune 500 company and various small businesses. Mr. Shaffer has spoken before various legal, civic, social and professional organizations. As a founder of the Intellectual Property Center, he has dedicated his legal career to serving entrepreneurs and businesses by helping them protect and promote their intellectual innovations, including their copyrights, trademarks and patents. Mr. Shaffer also volunteers with the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) by mentoring small businesses on a variety of issues. LYNN WEDDLE JUDKINS is an attorney at the law firm of Foland, Wickens, Eisfelder, Roper & Hofer, PC. Ms. Judkins has successfully tried cases, representing both plaintiffs and defendants, in Missouri and Kansas courts, and in construction and contract arbitration disputes before the American Arbitration Association and other neutrals. She specializes in business and commercial litigation, with an emphasis on construction defect, contracts, real estate and lender liability claims. Ms. Judkins was named one of 2010 Super Lawyers Missouri Rising Stars and currently serves as the chairman for the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association's Construction Law Committee. Her professional development includes service as the membership chairman of the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel's (KADC's) Board of Directors. She has also served as the co-advisor for the Missouri Bar Leadership Academy in 2006, after completing her term in 2005. Ms. Judkins was one of 11 selected across the state for this academy honor to build diversity in the bar. When not strengthening her professional network, Ms. Judkins enjoys returning to her educational and presentation roots as a visiting professor for business law at various institutions and speaking on variety of continuing-legal education topics. Ms. Judkins earned her B.J. degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism, with an emphasis in media management. She applied those "hands-on" techniques for several years in advertising, communication programming, and membership development at an area not-for-profit corporation before earning her J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.
