HENRY R. COX is a sole practitioner in Kansas City, where his responsibilities include employment law, labor law, dispute resolution, human resources compliance, civil rights law and workforce management cases. Mr. Cox served as a labor attorney for TWA, and has practiced law for more than 25 years representing both large and mid-sized companies, as well as individuals. He is a frequent lecturer and writer for continuing legal education and management education programs both regionally and nationally. Mr. Cox also assisted in developing several civil mediation-training programs and has provided more than 800 hours of mediation and arbitration training to attorneys, judges and business professionals. He is a member of The Missouri Bar and the Kansas Bar Association (member, Labor and Employment Law Section and past president of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee) and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (member, Labor Law Committee and past president of the Dispute Resolution Committee). Mr. Cox earned his B.A. degree from Baylor University and J.D. degree from Washburn University School of Law where he was admitted into the Order of Barristers, and was Moot Court Council President. He has been selected "Best of the Bar" by the Kansas City Business Journal for seven consecutive years and he's been selected as a super lawyer in Kansas and Missouri by Law & Politics Publications. Mr. Cox is a former committee member of the American Bar Association's Law of Collective Bargaining Committee and a contributing author of "Discipline and Discharge in Arbitration" ABA/BNA (1998). PATRICK M. GAVIN is of counsel in the Kansas City law firm of Husch Blackwell Sanders LLP, where he has experience as lead counsel successfully representing employers in administrative proceedings, litigation, jury trials, collective actions, arbitration, mediation, and appeals of matters involving discrimination, harassment or retaliation based on sex, race, religion, national origin, age, disability, military status, and claims under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act, non-compete, and other employment agreements. Mr. Gavin also proactively counsels clients regarding a variety of employment issues ranging from hiring to discharge, including employment policies and handbooks; wage, hour and overtime exemptions and compliance; drug testing, non-solicitation and severance agreements; executive employment contracts; employee privacy, workplace violence; the FMLA; the Americans With Disabilities Act; the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act; the Warn Act; the National Labor Relations Act; union avoidance; and state laws across the country. He is certified as a mediator and meets the requirements under Missouri Rule 17. Frequently, Mr. Gavin has been asked to speak at local, regional, and national educational conferences for attorneys and human resource professionals. He has published numerous articles on a variety of employment issues. He also was voted as a 2007 Missouri & Kansas "Super Lawyer®" in the area of employment and labor. A graduate of the United States Military Academy, Mr. Gavin earned his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri in Kansas City. He is a member of the American Bar Association, The Missouri Bar, the Kansas Bar Association, the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (Chair, Labor & Employment Law Committee, 2009), the American Health Lawyers Association, and Defense Research Institute. KIMBERLY F. SETEN is a partner in the Kansas City, Missouri law firm of Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP, where she practices in the area of labor and employment law. She co-wrote a chapter in the Kansas Employment Law Handbook and has lectured to various professional groups on labor and employment law, FMLA, ADA and wage and hour issues. Ms. Seten is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association (past co-chair, Labor and Employment Law Committee) and the Western Missouri Society for Human Resource Management. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Illinois and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami.
