AREND J. ABEL is the chair of the appellate law practice group with Cohen & Malad, LLP, and represents clients at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts. Mr. Abel's practice areas are government litigation, appeals, business litigation, class action, intellectual property litigation, securities litigation, health care and health care reimbursement, and gaming. He has taught many lectures and seminars, including "Presenting Effective Appellate Oral Argument," Office of the Attorney General and the Appellate Practice Section of the Indiana State Bar Association; "The Changing Face of Regulatory Takings," Conference of Government Mining Attorneys; "Brief Writing," Indiana Office of the Attorney General and "Analysis of Indiana Department of Environmental Management v. Chemical Waste Management, Inc.," Indianapolis Bar Association. Mr. Abel is a member of the American, Federal, Indiana State and Indianapolis bar associations. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Ball State University and his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Indiana University at Bloomington School of Law. STEVEN M. BADGER is a member of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP's litigation group. He represents clients in commercial and complex business litigation matters, and appeals. Mr. Badger's litigation experience includes First Amendment and media law cases, defamation and class action defense. He also handles matters involving business torts, fraud and malfeasance in corporate and consumer transactions, as well as defense of accountants and attorneys against claims of professional negligence and misconduct. Mr. Badger earned his B.A. degree from Wabash College and his J.D. degree from the Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. During law school he was a managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal. Mr. Badger has been a speaker at several seminars. He is a member of the Indianapolis, Indiana State and American bar associations, and Seventh Circuit, the Indianapolis Law Club; IPS School 20 (mentor); the Stacy Toran Foundation (Board of Directors); and the Indiana State Bar Association's Civil Rights of Children Committee (chair 2004-2006). CHARLES E. BRUESS is an attorney in Brownsburg, Indiana. He graduated, cum laude, from both the University of Minnesota and the Indiana University School of Law, where he was a member of the Indiana Law Journal and also was a note editor. After graduation from law school, Mr. Bruess was selected for membership in the Order of the Coif. Following the completion of Officer Candidate School, he served as a legal officer with the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the U.S. Navy. He was a trial lawyer with Barnes & Thornburg in Indianapolis, Indiana. From 1999-2009, Mr. Bruess served as the courtroom deputy for the Hon. David F. Hamilton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana. During 2009, he served as a special master in the matter of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission vs. Alanar, Inc., et al. pending in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana as Cause No. 1:05-1102-DFH-TAB. TIMOTHY F. DEVEREUX is an attorney with Ladendorf & Ladendorf, where his main areas of practice are personal injury, construction accidents, wrongful death, products liability, catastrophic injury and brain injury. Mr. Devereux has written many articles in his main areas of practice. He is a member of the Executive Committee for the Indiana State Bar Association's Litigation Section, Indianapolis Bar Association, Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, American Association of Justice (Toxic, Environmental and Pharmaceutical Litigation sections). Mr. Devereux earned his B.A. degree from Millikin University and his J.D. degree from the University of Denver College of Law. W. BRENT GILL is the litigation manager at Ken Nunn Law Office in Bloomington, and has tried more than 100 trials. He has extensive practice experience in the areas of medical malpractice, products liability and personal injury law. Mr. Gill is the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Southern Cherokee Nation, and also is the past chairman of Indiana's Native American Indian Affairs Commission. He has taught and lectured to legal and professional organizations on various areas of trial advocacy and practice, communication, damages, and areas of substantive law, and also lectures on Cherokee history, culture and tradition. Mr. Gill earned his B.S. degree from Indiana University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from its School of Law. He graduated from the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and is board certified as a civil trial advocate of the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Mr. Gill was trained and billeted as an orthopedic technician during his military service, and worked in that capacity at hospitals while completing his undergraduate degree. His professional association memberships include: the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association (president, 2003-2004; Board of Directors, 1988-); the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (state delegate, 1996-1999); fellow of Roscoe Pound Foundation; fellow of Indiana College of Trial Lawyers; national native of the American Bar Association; and a member of the American, Indiana State, Seventh Circuit and Lawrence County bar associations. HON. BRUCE A. MacTAVISH of Seymour, Indiana has been the Superior Court 2 Judge for Jackson County, Indiana for four years. Judge MacTavish was previously a partner at Markel, Markel, Lambring & MacTavish and practiced law for more than 21 years. He earned his undergraduate degree from Indiana University-Bloomington and his law degree from Indiana University-Indianapolis. RONALD S. TODD represents injured people, who have been harmed by another in construction site accidents; traffic accidents involving cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians; premise site accidents; and other personal injury accidents. He practices personal injury law throughout the state of Indiana. Mr. Todd's office is located in Noblesville, Indiana. He has lectured extensively for National Business Institute, and he is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the Indiana Trial Lawyer Association. Mr. Todd earned his B.A. degree from Miami University; his M.S.M. degree from Purdue University; and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Notre Dame University.
