DAVID KALAT joined Duff & Phelps, LLC in May 2011, to head the research department of the firm's Dispute Consulting practice group. Since that time, he has led background investigations into a wide array of subjects, including investment managers, expert witnesses, plaintiffs involved in multi-district litigation and corporate histories. Mr. Kalat provides research support to Duff & Phelps, LLC's elite team of fraud investigators, as well as assists their computer forensics specialists. In one recent engagement, he coordinated investigative teams on behalf of a client facing ongoing product liability litigation. Mr. Kalat established a system of automated news alerts to identify incidents that might have involved the client's products and deployed a nationwide network of private investigators to conduct onsite and remote evidence collection on behalf of the client's legal team. As part of a securities fraud investigation, he conducted historical research and analysis of financial industry information and prepared retroactive background checks on subjects using archival resources. Mr. Kalat is an experienced researcher in many fields and a noted non-fiction author. In addition, he founded and operated the nation's first fully independent DVD publishing company. Mr. Kalat has been a freelance researcher and writer for Turner Classic Movies and other media institutions. He earned his master's degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he created the University's library guide portal for legal research resources. Mr. Kalat earned his bachelor's degree in film studies from the University of Michigan, graduating in the top 1% of his class as a James B. Angell Scholar. THOMAS R. KEEFE is the Instructional Services Reference Librarian for the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, IL, where he is a full-time law librarian and teaches as an adjunct professor in the Lawyering Skills program. Before arriving at John Marshall Law School, Mr. Keefe worked as a law librarian in private firms for more than six years. His publications on legal research have appeared in Law Library Journal, Perspectives: Teaching Legal Research and Legal Writing, Legal Information Alert and the Illinois Bar Journal. Mr. Keefe earned his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School in Chicago, IL and his M.S. degree in library science from Dominican University in River Forest, IL. He is a member of the American Association of Law Librarians, Chicago Association of Law Librarians, American Bar Association and Illinois State Bar Association. Mr. Keefe is licensed to practice in Illinois. FRANK W. NAGORKA is a lawyer in private practice, where his practice concentrates in the areas of emergency medical services and medical malpractice defense. Mr. Nagorka is a licensed practicing paramedic, having earned advanced cardiac life support and basic trauma life support certifications; and he represents many ambulance companies around the state of Illinois, as well as various ambulance trade associations in transactional matters and litigation. Throughout his legal career, he has lectured all over the United States to various emergency medical service professionals on medical/legal issues involving pre-hospital care, and has written for various publications, including peer-reviewed journals. In addition to his medical background, Mr. Nagorka has been an early adopter of technology and works with various technology companies and consumers on technical issues. He earned his B.A. degree from Northwestern University and his J.D. degree from The Ohio State University. Mr. Nagorka is on the faculty of the National Center for Advanced Medical Education and has taught at all the Chicago medical schools. He is a member of the Illinois State and American bar associations.
