DAVID ADLER is a partner in the law firm of Leavens, Strand, Glover & Adler, LLC. He is an attorney, author, educator, and entrepreneur with a multidisciplinary practice focused on counseling businesses across the interrelated areas of intellectual property law, media and entertainment, information technology, and corporate law. Mr. Adler provides legal counsel on trademark and copyright clearance, registration and enforcement, digital and new media licensing, production, finance, regulations, litigation, and corporate-commercial transactions. He assists interactive and digital marketing and advertising companies, content providers and licensors with advice on affiliate, publisher and partnership agreements, content licensing, syndication, distribution, Social Media, and many other related deals. Mr. Adler has an extensive private-practice and in-house background counseling clients on corporate and intellectual property law, including corporation and LLC creation and finance; contract interpretation; drafting; negotiation; and enforcement. He also is an adjunct professor of music law at DePaul University School of Law in Chicago. Mr. Adler earned his law degree from the DePaul University College of Law, where he wrote for the DePaul Arts & Entertainment Law Journal. He earned a Bachelor of the Arts in English and a Bachelor of the Arts in History from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Outside the practice of law, he created and taught an undergraduate course on E-Business in the Arts, Entertainment & Media Management Department of Columbia College Chicago; currently chairs the Chicago Bar Association's Media & Entertainment Law Committee, and previously chaired the Start-up and Entrepreneurial Ventures Subcommittee; frequently contributes to numerous online publications in the areas of ecommerce, intellectual property, and small business; and speaks to industry and trade groups and associations on these topics. SCOTT A. ANDRESEN is owner of Andresen & Associates, P.C. in Chicago. He focuses his practice in sports law, entertainment and the arts, licensing and sponsorships, trademark and copyright, general business matters, and corporation formation. Mr. Andresen was named 2010 and 2011 Illinois Rising Star in entertainment and sports practice areas by Super Lawyers magazine. He has represented screenwriters, producers, and filmmakers in operational and legal matters appurtenant to formation of their companies, as well as the financing, production, and release of various film/television productions and concepts in the U.S. and abroad. JERRY W. GLOVER is a partner in the law firm of Leavens, Strand, Glover & Adler, LLC. He has represented individuals and companies in various entertainment industries for over 30 years. His areas of concentration also include copyright, trademark, publishing, promotions (including sweepstakes and other contests), sponsorships, web sites, and related internet law matters. He is listed as a Notable Practitioner in Chambers USA in the field of media and entertainment law/Illinois. Mr. Glover represents a variety of clients in the entertainment industry including motion picture studios, independent television and film producers, television and film production companies, Broadway producers, choreographers, talk show hosts, directors, musicians, and writers. He has counseled film producers regarding film production issues and investor matters, corporate tie-ins, and product placements, as well as web development agreements for film-related web sites. Mr. Glover also represents television producers in connection with series-related promotions, and serves as production and compliance counsel for various nationally-broadcast reality television series. Mr. Glover also has served as senior vice president and general counsel to Chicago's public television station, WTTW, as well as that company's commercial radio station, WFMT. In addition to entertainment and intellectual property matters, his work as the station's general counsel included FCC issues (e.g., station licensing, tower licensing negotiations, non-commercial television station underwriting); personnel and talent union issues; First Amendment rights; contest and other promotion regulations; production and talent contracts; home video licensing; cable broadcast licensing; video on demand licensing and Internet licenses; and corporate matters. Mr. Glover continues to serve as outside counsel to both stations. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Arkansas, and his M.A. degree from the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Glover earned his law degree from the University of Arkansas, where he served as Notes Editor for The University of Arkansas Law Review. He has taught at several law schools including the University of Arkansas; George Washington University in Washington, D.C.; and The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Mr. Glover currently is an adjunct profession at The John Marshall Law School, where he teaches entertainment law. THOMAS R. LEAVENS is a partner in the law firm of Leavens, Strand, Glover & Adler, LLC. His career as an attorney has involved transactions, counseling, and litigation in all areas of performing; visual and literary expression; new media; intellectual property; and technology. Prior to forming Leavens, Strand & Glover, LLC, Mr. Leavens was general counsel for LRSmedia, LLC, a media production and brand development company, whose initial project was the PBS television series LEGENDS OF JAZZ with Ramsey Lewis. His responsibilities there included general business management, development of business models, artist and other talent agreements, publishing and record company clearance, distribution agreements, business development, union agreements, and intellectual property protection. Prior to joining LRS, he was general counsel for MusicNow LLC, a pioneer digital music company that commercially launched a subscription music service, webcasting, and the sale of music downloads in 2002. Mr. Leavens also has served as general counsel and senior executive vice president of Platinum Entertainment, Inc., a public company which grew from its formation in 1992 to become at one point the largest US-based independent record company. While there he also served as executive producer of various recording and television projects, and compiled and produced 16 House of Blues Essential Blues recordings released by the company under its joint venture with HOB Entertainment. Prior to Platinum he was a partner with the law firm McBride, Baker & Coles in Chicago, where he chaired the firm's intellectual property department. Mr. Leavens was the first recipient of the Thomas R. Leavens Award, presented by Lawyers For The Creative Arts, for contributions to law and the arts in Chicago; was the recipient of the David C. Hilliard Award, presented by the Chicago Bar Association for Outstanding Committee Service to the Legal Profession and Community; and has served as an elected member of the Board of Managers of the Chicago Bar Association, the Board of Directors of the Digital Media Association, and the National Recording Preservation Board of the Library of Congress. He has previously served as an expert witness in litigation concerning issues pertaining to the music industry. PAUL ONEST is senior vice president of Insurance Management Group in Dyer, IN. Mr. Onest began his insurance career as an underwriter for K&K Insurance Group, the world's largest managing general underwriter for sports, entertainment, and leisure risks. He transitioned into the insurance brokerage industry where he worked for Thilman & Filippini (now Willis), and Marsh & McClennan in their respective Sports and Entertainment divisions. Clients have included, television and radio stations, production companies, amateur and professional sports, stadium operators, amusement parks, and concert promoters. He now brings over 15 years of experience in this field to develop a Sports and Entertainment unit for Insurance Management Group. Mr. Onest is a graduate of Indiana University at Bloomington, and volunteers his time to several local non-profit organizations. PETER J. STRAND is a partner in the law firm of Leavens, Strand, Glover & Adler, LLC. His clients include content providers and content creators, including media companies; television and radio broadcasters; authors; songwriters; recording artists; musicians; television and film writers; independent record labels; independent film producers and documentarians; publishing companies; and production companies in various transactional and litigation matters in the entertainment industry. In addition to contract preparation, analysis, and negotiation. Mr. Strand assists clients with protecting and enforcing their copyrights, trademarks, and other intellectual property rights; licensing or exploiting their creative works; acquiring and distributing content; and selecting, securing, and protecting product and service names. He also provides pro bono legal services to musicians, artists, and arts organizations through the Lawyers for the Creative Arts, where he's been involved as a volunteer, Board Member, and on the Honors Council for 20 years and has participated in numerous LCA programs and presentations. In 2008, Mr. Strand received the Thomas R. Leavens Award from the Lawyers for the Creative Arts for his distinguished service to the arts through LCA. He has been named by the Chicago Law Bulletin Leading Lawyers Network as a Leading Lawyer in Arts, Entertainment, and Sports in Illinois from 2003 - 2010. Mr. Strand also was named an Illinois Super Lawyer in Arts & Entertainment as one of the top five percent of Illinois attorneys in the entertainment field. He is an adjunct professor of entertainment and music law at Chicago Kent College of Law. Mr. Strand has been an adjunct professor for 14 years, teaching entertainment and music law at DePaul University College of Law and Marquette University Law School. He is currently a National Trustee of the Recording Academy representing the Chicago Chapter. Mr. Strand is the immediate past president of the Chicago Chapter, and has served on the Board of Governors for several years. In addition, he is the chair of the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Division of the ABA Forum on the Entertainment & Sports Industries.
