MICHAEL H. ERDE is the principal in the Chicago law firm of Michael H. Erde & Associates, P.C., where, since 1969, he has focused his practice on estate planning, elder law, probate, guardianships, business and corporate law, and real estate leases. He is certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation (the Supreme Court of Illinois does not recognize certification). Mr. Erde is a member of Greater North Shore Estate Planning (treasurer), the Financial Planners Council and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He has been an instructor/lecturer for many years on estates and trusts, elder law and asset protection. Mr. Erde is an adjunct professor at John Marshall Law School, where he teaches classes on elder law. Mr. Erde also has written numerous articles on wills, trusts and elder law issues. He earned his B.S.B.A. degree from Washington University, his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois, and has graduate credits in taxation from The John Marshall Law School. Mr. Erde founded the Asset Protection Committee of the Chicago Bar Association, where he was a former chairman and member. He also is a member of the Probate Committee of the local bar. Mr. Erde also is former chair of the Business and Financial Advice Section of the Illinois State Bar Association and former director of the Irene Josselyn Center for Mental Health. MICHAELINE GORDON is Of Counsel to Anthony J. Madonia & Associates, Ltd. She is an estate planning and transactional attorney who focuses on estate business planning, asset protection, and estate and trust administration. Ms. Gordon assists business owners, families, and individuals with all aspects of estate and trust planning, business succession planning, and charitable giving. She also helps single and unmarried couples properly structure their estates in light of increasingly complex state and federal laws. Ms. Gordon assists families with elder law planning and has developed a special interest in assisting families with sensitive circumstances, such as planning for disabled children and adults with special needs. Experienced in probate and trust administration, she works with executors and trustees to administer decedent estates and trusts. Ms. Gordon also works with entrepreneurs throughout the full business cycle, from initial planning for entity selection to asset protection and wealth preservation through succession planning. She earned her B.S. degree from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, her J.D. degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, and her LL.M. degree from De Paul University College of Law. Ms. Gordon is a member of the International (member, Closely Held Business Committee) and Chicago (member, Trust Law Committee) bar associations. JULIE MENDELSON is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) specializing in aging and mental health. She has been in this field for the past 25 years and has direct work experience with older adults in the Chicagoland area. Ms. Mendelson's past work experience includes overseeing 1,500 elderly low-income clients as a supervisor of geriatric case managers at Catholic Charities' Older Adult Program (from 1997 to 2008). During that period she also supervised their emergency program, doing crisis intervention for at-risk seniors on the north side of the city. Previous to this Ms. Mendelson worked as a coordinator of social work at the University of Illinois at Chicago Hospital. This position involved discharge planning and counseling of patients and their families on the geriatric units, as well as the neurology units (both in- and out-patient). Also included in past work experience were positions as a senior psychiatric social worker on an in-patient older adult psychiatric unit, and as a case worker for the hard-to-reach elderly living in the uptown neighborhood of Chicago. Currently Ms. Mendelson is in private practice and has counseled both older adults and their families related to numerous issues in aging. In October of 2011 she launched a website: www.AskJulieElderConcerns.com in order to expand the territory of her private practice. Ms. Mendelson earned her B.S. degree from Roosevelt University. In 1989 she completed her MSW at the University of Illinois Chicago. In 1991 Ms. Mendelson received her LCSW, a license which remains current. Throughout her career she has given numerous in-service trainings on a variety of topics dealing with older adult issues, and was a presenter at a conference on mental health and aging for the state of Illinois. Ms. Mendelson is currently a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and AARP. MORRIS R. SAUNDERS is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Levin & Ginsburg. Mr. Saunders concentrates his practice in the areas of wealth management, asset protection, estate planning, business taxation law, real estate, ownership and management succession, and deferred compensation. He also deals extensively in business succession and in the negotiation and preparation of commercial real estate and equipment leases and other business agreements. Mr. Saunders is a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Counsel and the Chicago Bar Association. He has spoken to various professional and community groups about estate planning, trusts, estates, business succession planning and deferred compensation. Mr. Saunders earned his B.A. degree from the University of Virginia, his J.D. degree from The John Marshall Law School and his LL.M. degree from DePaul University.
