LISA A. BAIL is a partner in the law firm of Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel LLP, where she concentrates her practice in environmental law, land use and commercial litigation. She received her B.A., magna cum laude, and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Boston University. Ms. Bail is a frequent speaker at environmental law seminars and is a contributing writer of the Hawaii Environmental Law Handbook (published by Government Institutes, 3rd Edition, 2000) and several other publications in the field of environmental law. She is the former chair of the Natural Resources Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association and was an appointed lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference, 2005 to 2008. RAY K. KAMIKAWA is a partner in the law firm of Chun Kerr Dodd Beaman & Wong, where he practices in the areas of business and real estate structuring, tax planning, nonprofit organizations and tax controversies. He formerly served as the director of the Department of Taxation for the state of Hawaii and served as an adjunct professor at the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii. Mr. Kamikawa also taught at the College of Business, University of Hawaii. He co-chaired the Tax Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii. Mr. Kamikawa earned his B.A. degree at the University of Hawaii, Manoa Campus; his J.D. degree from the George Washington University National Law Center; and his LL.M. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He was formerly with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service National Office in Washington D.C., and the San Francisco and Honolulu District Counsel Offices. Mr. Kamikawa is a member of the American Bar Association and the Hawaii State Bar Association (past chair, Tax Section). PHILIP J. LEAS is a partner in the Litigation and Finance and Real Estate departments of Cades Shutte, LLP. He has extensive experience with real estate transactions, financing, leases, condominiums and hotels in Hawaii. Mr. Leas has extensive litigation experience in state and federal court, including domain cases, quiet title actions, partitions, foreclosures, collections, condominium disputes, commercial lease disputes, and cases dealing with real estate contract information and enforcement. He earned his A.B. degree, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University; and his J.D. degree from Stanford Law School. Mr. Leas is admitted to practice with the Hawaii State Bar and before the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth circuit. He is a member of the Hawaii State and American bar associations. TERRENCE M. LEE is a partner with the law firm of Bickerton Lee Dang Sullivan. His areas of practice include hotel and resort, commercial real estate, commercial leasing and general business transactions. Mr. Lee is one of the most experienced real estate and restaurant attorneys in Hawaii and is a licensed real estate broker. He has been in practice for more than 30 years. Mr. Lee has substantial experience in all aspects of investment and development projects, from acquisition through development, operations, leasing and sales. His representation has included owners and investors in retail/commercial operations, shopping centers, warehouses, hotels, restaurants, office buildings, service companies, and other businesses. Mr. Lee's work routinely includes advising on appropriate legal structure, advising on and negotiating key deal points, handling use requirements, resolving title issues, negotiating and drafting long term ground leases, partnership agreements, tenant leases, construction agreements, financing agreements, brokerage agreements, and other core contracts. He also has extensive experience representing commercial landlords and tenants in all aspects of leasing transactions with particular emphasis on commercial/retail and restaurants. Mr. Lee also represents a significant number of clients seeking to obtain, retain, or transfer liquor licenses throughout the islands. He earned his B.A. degree, with high honors, from the University of Hawaii; and his J.D. degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Mr. Lee is a member of the Hawaii State and American bar associations. NEIL J. VERBRUGGE is a partner at the law firm of Wagner Choi & Verbrugge in Honolulu. His practice focuses on insolvency, business, and commercial litigation matters, in federal bankruptcy court, federal district court and state courts. Mr. Verbrugge has been the trial attorney in numerous contested evidentiary hearings in bankruptcy courts. His practice includes fraudulent transfer, preference, lien priority, equitable subordination, nondischargeability, claim objections/allowance, automatic stay, and jurisdictional litigation in bankruptcy courts. Mr. Verbrugge has a wide range of experience in commercial real estate foreclosure, both for lenders and borrowers. He has represented parties dealing with issues arising in judicial foreclosure proceedings, appointment of receivers, sales process, credit-bid rights, lender liability, second lien lender rights, confirmation proceedings, and bankruptcy litigation matters relating to real estate, including automatic stay relief and property of the estate issues. Mr. Verbrugge earned his B.S.S. degree, cum laude, from Cornell College; and his J.D. degree, with distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law, where he was a member of the Iowa Law Review.
