HON. TOM CAMPBELL was appointed by Governor Sonny Perdue to the Fulton County Superior Court bench in May, 2004. Prior to his appointment, Judge Campbell served in the State House of Representatives from 1989 through 2004. In 2004, he was given the Award for Republican Legislator of the Year. Judge Campbell was in the private practice of law from 1965 through 2004. He earned his B.A. degree at the University of Georgia and his J.D. degree at the University of Georgia School of Law. Judge Campbell is a member of the Atlanta, Gate City, North Fulton, and Sandy Springs bar associations and the State Bar of Georgia. HON. BRENDA H. COLE has served as a Judge in the Fulton County State Court since 1988. After her admission to the State Bar of Georgia, Judge Cole began her law career as an assistant attorney general in the Fiscal Affairs Division of the Georgia State Law Department, a position which she held for five years. Judge Cole moved to West Virginia where she served as counsel for the West Virginia Department of Corrections, was admitted to the West Virginia bar and joined the West Virginia Attorney General's Office. Returning to Atlanta in 1982, Judge Cole rejoined the Georgia State Law Department, serving first as assistant attorney general and later, deputy attorney general, before her appointment as a state court judge in 1988. She has been elected unopposed to consecutive terms. Judge Cole earned her B.A. degree from Spelman College, her M.S. degree in library science at Atlanta University (now Clark Atlanta University) and her J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law. She is active in the legal community as a member of several bar associations and a former president of the Council of State Court Judges. She has been recognized for her community service, most recently by her induction in 2009 in the Gate City Bar Hall of Fame. HON. DANIEL M. COURSEY JR. is a Judge in the DeKalb County Superior Court. He began his private practice in 1966. Judge Coursey earned his A.B. degree at Emory University and his J.D. degree at the University of Georgia School of Law. HON. MYRA H. DIXON was appointed to the Fulton County State Court in November 1999. She is a former litigation partner with Thomas, Kennedy, Sampson & Patterson where she managed commercial and corporate litigation, and a former assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia. Judge Dixon has been honored in Black Judges in America and Women Looking Ahead magazine. She is a founding member and past chair of the Judicial Section of the Gate City Bar Association. She is also a certified mediator. Judge Dixon earned her bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University and is a cum laude graduate of Howard University School of Law. HON. SUSAN E. EDLEIN is a Judge in the Fulton County State Court. Judge Edlein was appointed to the bench in May 2008. She is a former litigation partner with Holland & Knight LLP. Her proficiency in the law earned her recognition as one of Georgia's "Legal Elite" by Georgia Trend, a "Rising Star" by Georgia Super Lawyers, and a "Legal Eagle" by Atlanta Women's Magazine. Judge Edlein is a graduate of both the Regional Leadership Institute and the Commercial Real Estate Women's Leadership Program. She earned her bachelor's degree as an honors program student at the University of North Carolina and her J.D. degree at the University of Virginia School of Law. HON. JANIS C. GORDON is the Presiding Judge over Division 7 of the DeKalb County State Court. Governor Roy Barnes appointed Judge Gordon to the bench in 2002. From 1979 through 2002, Judge Gordon was a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Atlanta, Georgia, where she prosecuted large, complex multi-defendant cases. She is the receipt of the Attorney General's Director's Award, and a personal briefing from the President of the United States. Judge Gordon earned her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, at Emory University, her M.A. degree in political science at the University of Chicago and her J.D. degree, cum laude, at Duke Law School. HON. MARK A. SCOTT is the Presiding Judge over Division 9 of the DeKalb County Superior Court. Judge Scott presides over civil, domestic relations, and criminal felony matters as a superior court judge in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit. Prior to his election to the bench in August 2004, Judge Scott's primary legal concentration focused on criminal defense work throughout the United States. He previously served on the faculty of Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and is the immediate past president of the DeKalb Bar Association. Prior to law school, Judge Scott served in the U.S. Air Force where he earned an A.S. degree in business administration. Additionally, he earned a B.A. degree in speech communication from California State University at Fresno and his J.D. degree from Howard University School of Law in Washington. HON. MELVIN K. WESTMORELAND has served on the trial court in Atlanta since 1988. He currently is a Judge in the Superior Court of Fulton County, having previously been on the Fulton County State Court bench. Judge Westmoreland practiced law with the firm of King & Spalding when he was initially appointed by Gov. Joe Frank Harris. He previously worked as director of the Pro Bono Project of the State Bar of Georgia and as deputy director of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society. Judge Westmoreland has served as president of the Atlanta Bar Association, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation and the Atlanta Council of Young Lawyers. He currently is serving as president of the Council of Superior Court Judges for the state of Georgia. Judge Westmoreland earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received his J. D. degree from Western New England College School of Law. MODERATOR - BARRY S. NOELTNER is principal of the Atlanta-based law firm of Barry S. Noeltner, P.C., where he practices in the areas of professional negligence, personal injury, construction law, and insurance matters. He also is certified as a mediator by the State of Georgia. Mr. Noeltner is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars and has spoken in the past on topics relating to his areas of expertise. He is a member of the Atlanta, Illinois State and American bar associations, the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the American Association for Justice, and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Mr. Noeltner earned his B.S. and J.D. degrees from Southern Illinois University.
