A. MICHELLE CANTER is partner-in-charge of the Atlanta office of LotsteinLegal PLLC and leads the firm's litigation and regulatory enforcement practice, representing financial institutions, mortgage bankers, loan servicers, third party originating mortgage brokers, finance companies and other creditors. Ms. Canter defends individual and class action litigation with claims involving loan servicing, wrongful foreclosure, HAMP or loan modification, loss mitigation and predatory lending claims, including alleged statutory violations of TILA, RESPA, FCRA, ECOA, FDCPA, HOEPA and other consumer lending statutes. She has significant experience in investigating and litigating mortgage fraud claims and repurchase demands. Regularly speaking at industry events, Ms. Canter has been a featured panelist at conferences for the Mortgage Bankers Association, American Conference Institute (ACI), Practicing Law Institute (PLI), Consumer Finance, National Business Institute (NBI), Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia, Georgia Community Bankers Association, National Association of Professional Mortgage Women (NAPMW) and others and also has spoken at events sponsored by HUD and the Georgia Department of Banking & Finance. She is the Annual Conference Chair and Secretary/Treasure of the Georgia Real Estate Fraud Prevention and Awareness Coalition (GREFPAC), is a member of the MBA's Working Groups for Litigation, as well as the Fraud and Ethics Working Group and Legal Issues and recently served on the MorPac Committee for the Mortgage Bankers Association. Ms. Canter graduated with dean's honors from Washburn University School of Law, where her activities included being an associate editor for the Washburn Law Journal, Moot Court National Team and Order of Barristers. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas. JOHN G. NELSON is a partner in the law firm of Weissman Nowack Curry & Wilco, P.C., where he practices in the areas of litigation, business law, construction/builder disputes and real estate. He is in the general litigation group who represents clients in a variety of disputes related to real estate, professional liability, construction projects and contracts. Mr. Nelson also handles insurance defense litigation. He is licensed to practice in Georgia and before the Georgia Supreme Court 11th Circuit and Georgia Court of Appeals. Mr. Nelson is a member of the State Bar of Georgia (member, Business Law Section and General Practice and Trials Section) and the American Bar Association. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of West Florida and his J.D. degree from Emory University. GREGORY M. TAUBE is a partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, in Atlanta. He practices in the areas of bankruptcy and creditors' rights, and business litigation. Mr. Taube primarily advocates for creditors and landlords in state and federal courts, including bankruptcy courts in Georgia and Alabama. He also regularly represents litigants in consumer finance litigation, contract and real estate disputes, franchise and distribution disputes, business torts, and other business litigation. Mr. Taube actively participates in the Creditors' Rights Section of the State Bar of Georgia and serves as co-chair of the section's newsletter. He frequently writes and speaks on bankruptcy and creditors' rights issues. Mr. Taube also is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association and serves on the editorial board of The Atlanta Lawyer. Prior to joining the firm, he served as law clerk to U.S. District Judge Daniel H. Thomas of the Southern District of Alabama and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge James S. Sledge of the Northern District of Alabama. Mr. Taube earned his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he was named a member of the Order of the Coif. During law school, he was a member of the Campbell Moot Court Board and the Jessup Moot Court Team. Mr. Taube served as an editor of the Journal of the Legal Profession and received the M. Leigh Harrison Award. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of South Alabama.
