SIMON H. BLOOM is a partner in The Bloom Law Firm, LLP, in Atlanta, where he tries complex commercial cases, with a major focus on the real estate industry. He represents developers, builders, landlords, tenants and brokers throughout the Southeast. Mr. Bloom also represents property owners in land use disputes and has tried countless zoning appeals and challenges throughout the state. He writes and teaches about trying cases and real estate litigation at seminars, including CLE seminars, throughout Georgia; and is an adjunct professor of trial practice and pre trial-litigation courses at Emory Law School. Mr. Bloom clerked in the Northern District of Alabama for U.S. District Judges Robert B. Propst and Seybourn H. Lynne. Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Mr. Bloom to the State Department of Community Affairs and to the Governor's Commission on Public Service and Volunteerism in recognition for the extensive time and energy he has devoted to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta and other children's causes. He earned his B.A. degree, with distinction, from the University of Virginia and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. CHALMER (CHUCK) E. DETLING is the general counsel and director of operations for Engineering Systems Inc., a leading international provider of forensic engineering services. Prior to joining ESI, Mr. Detling was a shareholder with Wagner, Johnston and Rosenthal, P.C., where he practiced in the firm's litigation group. He represented corporate clients in a variety of legal matters, from defending business tort and breach of contract actions to defending negligence and product liability claims. A large portion of Mr. Detling's practice was devoted to e-discovery and helping his clients when e-discovery issues arose during litigation. He earned his J.D. degree from the David A. Clarke School of Law and his B.A. degree from the University of Alabama. Mr. Detling is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the American Bar Association (Litigation and Product Liability sections), the Association of Corporate Counsel and the E-discovery Section of the Defense Research Institute (DRI). KIM M. JACKSON is a trial attorney and partner at the law firm of Hawkins Parnell Thackston & Young LLP, in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Jackson has practiced law almost entirely as defense counsel for persons and companies involved in civil litigation or professionals involved in civil claims and licensing complaints. His current practice focuses on professional liability defense, with an emphasis on defending legal malpractice claims and bar complaints, coverage litigation, and catastrophic tort defense. Mr. Jackson's practice also has included general insurance defense in automobile and premises liability cases, tractor-trailer defense, food product, and coverage litigation. He has tried cases in nearly every metro-Atlanta county involving automobile accidents, insurance fraud, first-party coverage claims, premises liability, insurance coverage declaratory judgments, abusive litigation claims, professional liability and wrongful death. Mr. Jackson is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the State Bar of Texas and the Kentucky Bar Association. He also belongs to the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute (Professionalism and Ethics Committee), the American Bar Association (Litigation Section), the Atlanta Bar Association (Litigation Section) and the Lawyer's Club of Atlanta. Mr. Jackson has previously spoken at continuing legal education seminars on defending abusive litigation claims in Georgia and on subjects concerning trial practice, legal ethics and professionalism. He was recognized from 2005 to 2007 as a Rising Star and from 2009 to 2011 as a Super Lawyer by Law & Politics Magazine's publication of Georgia SuperLawyers. Mr. Jackson earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Wabash College and his J.D. degree, Order of the Coif, from the University of Kentucky, where he served as associate editor of the Kentucky Law Review. DAVID F. ROOT is a partner in the law firm of Carlock, Copeland, Semler & Stair, LLP, where he practices in the areas of general civil litigation-defense. He has conducted numerous seminars on civil litigation issues. Mr. Root is a member of the Atlanta and American bar associations, the State Bar of Georgia, the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, and the Defense Research Institute. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, and J.D. degree from Wake Forest University.
