THOMAS L. AVRUTIS is a litigation attorney and shareholder with the Sarasota law firm of Hodges, Avrutis & Foeller, P.A. His practice focuses on debtor/collector law and he has handled collection cases throughout the state of Florida for more than 22 years. Mr. Avrutis earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Florida, graduated with high honors, and also earned his law degree from the University of Florida. He has been a presenter for a statewide convention of County Court Judges, local bar associations, and numerous businesses on consumer and commercial collections. Mr. Avrutis is a past director of the Sarasota County Bar Association and for several years, served as the liaison for the Bench Bar Conferences for Sarasota County Court Division. He has authored a collections chapter in the Creditors and Debtors Practice Manual for The Florida Bar Continuing Legal Education Section and represents financial institutions, hospitals, insurance companies, debt buyers and businesses regarding their collection matters. Mr. Avrutis was the presenter at a previous seminar approved by The Florida Bar for continuing legal education on the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act for attorneys and collection agencies, and the presenter at a seminar entitled "Enforcement of Judgments in Florida" for attorneys and accountants for the Sarasota County Bar Association. DUCHEMIN SR. is an attorney with DuChemin & Associates. He is a graduate of The Florida State University and earned his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Mr. DuChemin's primary area of practice is civil litigation, including creditors' rights, construction litigation, legal malpractice and domestic litigation. He has served as an adjunct professor of business in the M.B.A. Program for the University of North Florida and occasionally lectures at seminars for attorneys and credit managers. Mr. DuChemin is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts throughout the state of Florida, and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He is a member of the American, Federal and Orange County bar associations, and The Florida Bar. Mr. DuChemin served as president of the Orlando Chapter of the Federal Bar Association from 1993 to 1996 and presently serves on The Florida Bar Fee Arbitration Committee. (Tampa and Orlando locations) RICHARD S. LOUDERMILK is a partner and member of the litigation practice group in the Sarasota, Florida office of Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP. He focuses his practice on creditors' rights and commercial debt collection. Mr. Loudermilk represents clients at every stage of the collection process, from pre-suit negotiations through trial as well as post-judgment collection. His clients have included financial institutions, manufacturers, collection agencies, mortgage holders, and individual creditors. Mr. Loudermilk has acted as corporate counsel to collection agencies and debt purchasers, and he has extensive experience in commercial and consumer asset collection. He has advised corporate clients on the various issues affecting asset recovery, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and other federal and state statutes. In addition to his collection work, Mr. Loudermilk represents individual landlords, property management companies, and businesses in landlord-tenant disputes. His representation ranges from pre-suit lease negotiations to eviction lawsuits. Mr. Loudermilk is admitted to all state and local courts in Florida and Georgia, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Georgia Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Sarasota County Bar Association, The Florida Bar and the State Bar of Georgia. Mr. Loudermilk also is a member of the National List of Attorneys, the General Bar, the Commercial Law League of America and the Lease Enforcement Attorney Network. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of South Florida and his J.D. degree from Emory University.
