THOMAS M. BATES is a board-certified civil trial lawyer. Mr. Bates is admitted to practice in both Florida and Massachusetts. He practiced insurance defense for ten and a half years, and for the last 12 years has had his own practice representing plaintiffs in personal injury cases, civil rights violations, business litigation and probate litigation. Mr. Bates is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and is a member of the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association, the Palm Beach County Justice Association and Palm Beach County Bar Association. He received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his Juris Doctorate degree from New England Law-Boston. KENNETH P. CARMAN is a partner with Carman Beauchamp & Sang and has practiced in the area of insurance defense litigation since 1978. As house counsel and regional counsel for two major insurance companies, Mr. Carman litigated the companies' high exposure lawsuits, including products liability, premises claims and automobile negligence claims. He also has a wide range of experience in interpreting coverage and policy issues. Upon entering private practice, Mr. Carman continued his representation of insurance companies and their insured in major defense related litigation, with an additional emphasis on the defense of employment and civil rights actions, as well as other constitutional claims in both state and federal courts. Mr. Carman shares this expertise regularly by giving seminars in both the insurance and governmental areas. He also serves as an adjunct professor of law at Nova Southeastern School of Law. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of South Florida and his J.D. degree from Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Carman is an active member of the Defense Research Institute and The Florida Defense Lawyers Association. SETH E. MILES is an attorney with Grossman Roth PA, where he specializes in personal injury, wrongful death, products liability, pesticide exposure, negligent security, automobile accident, medical malpractice, business tort and class action cases. Mr. Miles graduated from Northwestern University and earned his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center. Following law school, Mr. Miles served as a law clerk to the Honorable Patricia A. Seitz on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. After clerking, Mr. Miles worked in the litigation department of an international law firm. He then served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney's office in the Southern District of Florida.
