CALVIN H. COBB III is a member of the Washington, DC, law firm of Craighill, Mayfield, Fenwick, Cromelin & Cobb, L.L.P., where he practices in estate planning, probate law and trusts. Mr. Cobb earned his A.B. degree from Princeton University and his J.D. degree, with honors, from Georgetown University. He has lectured as part of the basic estate planning series to members of The District of Columbia Bar and is a member of the District Columbia Bar and Maryland State Bar Association. DEBORAH A. COHN is a member of Paley Rothman's Estate Planning, Estate/Trust Administration, Tax, Employee Benefits and Retirement Plans practice group. She concentrates her practice in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration, business planning and taxation. Ms. Cohn currently serves on the Section Council of the Estates & Trust Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association and is a past co-chair of the Estate & Trust Law Section of the Montgomery County Bar Association. She is a member of the International Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP-USA); the Washington, D.C. Estate Planning Council; the Estates & Trusts and Probate Law Section and the Tax Section of the District of Columbia Bar; and the Real Property, Probate and Trust and Taxation Sections of the American Bar Association. A frequent lecturer on a wide variety of estate planning and estate administration issues, Ms. Cohn created and chaired a program on estate and income tax planning for non-U.S. citizens. She has spoken many times at the World Bank on estate planning for non-U.S. citizens and has also lectured on succession planning for business owners, basic estate planning for the mid-sized estate of $2 million to $10 million, using and drafting trusts in estate planning, will drafting, GRATs and sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts, non-tax practical considerations in estate planning, and estate and business planning with IRAs and qualified retirement plan accounts. She also is the author or co-author of numerous articles on estate planning and employee benefits. Ms. Cohen earned her A.B. degree from Bryn Mawr College and her J.D. degree from George Washington University National Law Center. JOHN M. LYNHAM JR. serves as counsel with the law firm of Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is a member of the firm's Tax & Individual Planning and Estates and Trusts Practices. He concentrates his practice on the areas of estate and trust planning and administration; estate, generating-skipping, gift and income taxation; real estate sales, leasing and settlements; tax-exempt organizations, including the formation and operation of foundations; and litigation. Mr. Lynham frequently lectures to both lawyer and non-lawyer groups on estates and trusts, tax and asset protection matters. He has also counseled businesses on employment, bankruptcy, pension plans and other matters. He earned his B.S. degree from Trinity College, his M.B.A. degree from the University of Maryland, his J.D. degree from George Washington University, and his masters of law in taxation from Georgetown University. Mr. Lynham is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and Maryland State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Lynham was listed by Washingtonian as one of the best estate planners in the metropolitan area in 2009. Since 2006, Mr. Lynham has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America and in 2009, he was selected as one of the top four Washington trusts and estates attorneys by the Washington Business Journal. JULIA L. O'BRIEN has been with Furey, Doolan & Abell, LLP since 1985, focusing on estate planning and administration. Her clients include married persons, single individuals, unmarried partners, and families with a disabled family member who has special needs. Ms. O'Brien lectures on estate planning to groups of laypersons, lawyers and other professionals. She is an adjunct professor with Georgetown University Law Center. Ms. O'Brien is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association ( former Co-Chairperson, Estates, Trusts and Probate Law Section Steering Committee), the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association (Estates & Trusts Section), the D.C. Estate Planning Council, the Estate Planning Council of Suburban Maryland, Inc., and The Barristers. She earned her B.A. degree from Princeton University, her M.S.W. degree from the University of Maryland School of Social Work, and her J.D. degree from Georgetown University. EDWARD G. VARRONE is a sole practitioner in Washington, D.C., where his principal areas of practice are wills and trusts, estate administration, conservatorship and guardianships, other fiduciary matters, and family law. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the Maryland State Bar Association. Mr. Varrone has served on the D.C. Superior Court Probate Rules Advisory Committee since 1994, and was a member of the D.C. Superior Court Probate Education Committee from 2002, when that committee was formed, until 2008. While a member of the Probate Education Committee, Mr. Varrone participated in the drafting of the Probate Division Attorney Practice Standards and developing the first and second training program for attorneys seeking inclusion on the Probate Division Fiduciary Appointment List. He currently serves on the committee which is preparing a case digest for Probate Division cases. He served two, three-year terms on the Steering Committee of the Estates, Trusts and Probate Law Section of the District of Columbia Bar, and served as co-chair of the Section for two of those years. He served on the D.C. Superior Court Probate Division Task Force and the Register of Wills Advisory Merit Selection Committee. Mr. Varrone has lectured extensively on intervention proceedings in the District of Columbia, guardianships of minors, will drafting, and other topics relevant to practice in the Probate Division of the Superior Court. Mr. Varrone earned his B.A. degree from American University and his J.D. degree from George Washington Law School.
