PRESTON J. BRANAUGH is an attorney in the metro Denver area, where he practices in the areas of corporate nonprofit entities, estate planning, probate, taxation and business law. He received his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Denver. Mr. Branaugh has taught courses at Colorado Christian University on business law and has spoken to business and professional groups on tax exempt organizations. He is a member of the Colorado and American bar associations and the Christian Legal Society. CHRISTY DALLMANN is currently a partner in the CPA firm Probst, Dallmann & Associates, P.C. She works in the audit, tax, financial planning and advisory fields of accounting for small professional and not-for-profit-businesses and churches. Ms. Dallmann has been a CPA for more than 25 years. She has been an adjunct faculty member for Red Rocks Community College. She has taught a number of classes on not-for-profit topics for NACBA (the National Association of Church Business Administration). Ms. Dallmann graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She graduated with her Masters in Business Administration degree, in accounting and finance, from Regis University. CARA B. LAWRENCE is a shareholder with Heizer Paul Grueskin LLP. She provides tax and business advice to public charities, private foundations, and political organizations. She has counseled numerous public charities, social welfare organizations and private foundations on political and lobbying activities during the election cycle, as well as during the Democratic National Convention. She also assists nonprofit organizations in creating and operating affiliated organizations to engage in advocacy activities. Ms. Lawrence specializes in nonprofit entity selection and formation, federal and state tax reporting requirements, governance issues, nonprofit mergers, acquisitions and consolidations, joint ventures between nonprofit and commercial entities, and related tax and business advice to provide comprehensive legal services to nonprofit clients. Ms. Lawrence has made many educational presentations, including the CLE programs "Taxation of Political Organizations" in May 2006, "Obtaining and Retaining Tax-Exempt Status" at the 18th Annual Colorado Nonprofit Institute in April 2009, and "Political Activities in 2010" at the 19th Annual Colorado Nonprofit Institute in April 2010. She received her Master in International Studies degree from the University of Denver Graduate School of International Studies and her Master in Taxation, L.L.M. degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She received her J.D. degree from the University of Colorado Law School and graduated, cum laude, with a B.A. degree, in history, from Smith College. She is admitted to practice in Colorado and for the United States Tax Court and the United States District Court, District of Colorado. She is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association and the Colorado Women's Bar Association. ALLEN SPARKMAN practices law in Denver as a partner of the law firm of Sparkman + Foote LLP and in Houston as of counsel to The Bond Law Firm, PLLC. Mr. Sparkman is listed in The Best Lawyers in America . He speaks regularly on entity selection, estate planning, asset protection and philanthropic planning topics at accredited continuing legal education seminars. Mr. Sparkman has written numerous articles, including "Asset Protection," in Schmidt Preserving Your Wealth: A Guide to Colorado Probate & Estate Planning (2003); "Professional Service Companies," in The Practitioner's Guide to Colorado Business Organizations (2004); "Family Business Entities: Preserving Wealth and Minimizing Taxes," in the November 2003 issue of The Colorado Lawyer ; and "No Paper Required - Business Entity Legislation Makes Life Easier for Business Lawyers," in the June 2004 issue of The Colorado Lawyer . He practices law in the areas of estate, business, tax, insurance, asset protection and philanthropic planning matters for individuals, farmers, ranchers, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Mr. Sparkman earned his A.B. degree, with honors, from Princeton University and his J.D. degree, with high honors, from the University of Texas. He is a member of the American, Colorado (member, Ethics Committee and immediate past chair, Business Law Section), Denver and Houston bar associations, the State Bar of Texas, and the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council (past president). He is an active member of the Colorado Secretary of State's Advisory Committee for Business and Commercial Laws, and the Legislative Drafting Committee of the Business Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. Mr. Sparkman is the Colorado reporter for State Limited Partnership Laws and State Limited Liability Company Laws, published by Aspen Law & Business. He is a fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation.
