HERRICK K. LIDSTONE JR. is a shareholder in the law firm of Burns, Figa & Will, P.C., where he practices in the areas of business transactions, including taxation, mergers and acquisitions, and securities. He has lectured at the Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, University College of Law, and he is a former adjunct professor at the University of Denver College of Law, and has been a speaker for various professional organizations. Mr. Lidstone has written numerous articles on business and securities law published in The Colorado Lawyer. He has published the Securities Law Deskbook (www.bradfordpublishing.com, 2006, 2008) and is a contributor to several other legal treatises. Mr. Lidstone earned his A.B. degree from Cornell University and J.D. degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a member of the Arapaho, Colorado and American bar associations, and the Denver Association of Oil and Gas Title Lawyers, and serves on and is the past chair of the State Securities Board of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies. ALLEN SPARKMAN is a founding partner of the law firm of Sparkman Shaffer Perlick LLP. Mr. Sparkman is listed in The Best Lawyers in America. He speaks regularly on entity selection, estate planning, asset protection and philanthropic planning topics at accredited continuing legal education seminars. Mr. Sparkman has written numerous articles, including "Asset Protection," in Schmidt Preserving Your Wealth: A Guide to Colorado Probate & Estate Planning (2003); "Professional Service Companies," in The Practitioner's Guide to Colorado Business Organizations (2004); "Family Business Entities: Preserving Wealth and Minimizing Taxes," in the November, 2003 issue of The Colorado Lawyer; and "No Paper Required - Business Entity Legislation Makes Life Easier for Business Lawyers," in the June 2004 issue of The Colorado Lawyer. He has practiced law for more than 30 years in the areas of estate, business, tax, insurance, asset protection and philanthropic planning matters for individuals, farmers, ranchers, businesses and nonprofit organizations throughout Colorado, and in several other states and foreign countries. Mr. Sparkman earned his A.B. degree, with honors, from Princeton University and his J.D. degree, with high honors, from the University of Texas. He is a member of the American, the Colorado (member, Ethics Committee and chair, Business Law Section) and Boulder bar associations, and the Boulder County Estate Planning Council. He is an active member of the Colorado Secretary of State's Advisory Committee for Business and Commercial Laws, and the Legislative Drafting Committee of the Business Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. Mr. Sparkman is the Colorado reporter for State Limited Partnership Laws and State Limited Liability Company Laws, published by Aspen Law & Business. He is a fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation.
