December 5 - Santa Rosa BARRY L. ADAMS is a partner in the Law Offices of Adams and Rafferty in Santa Rosa. He has concentrated his practice in the areas of probate and trust litigation since 1990. He earned his B.A. degree at the Whitworth University and his J.D. degree at the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. NANCY C. FIELD is the principal of the Law Offices of Nancy C. Field in Larkspur. Ms. Field has concentrated her practice in the areas of elder law, elder abuse, trusts, estates and probate law since 1990. She also acts as a court-appointed attorney for proposed conservatees in San Francisco and Marin counties. Ms. Field has served as an adjunct professor at Hastings College of the Law and Golden Gate University. She has also frequently spoken on numerous topics, including all aspects of elder abuse as well as San Francisco Probate Court procedures, ethical concerns in estate planning, ethics in elder law, creditors and trusts. Ms. Field was a participant in a national elder abuse conference and has been a guest lecturer on elder law at universities and conferences. She is the author of an article, "Elder Financial Management," that was published in BASF's quarterly legal publication and addresses how to approach and properly handle estate planning for the elderly. Ms. Field has appeared on an ABC's 20/20 program on elder abuse and was the guest speaker on a statewide radio program, "Know Your Legal Rights," on KALW 91.7-FM. She is presently working on a book on elder abuse and is co-founder of My Safe Circle, a private website dedicated to helping elders, developmentally disabled and others in need of help, as well as those providing care to these individuals. Ms. Field is presently a member of the State Bar of California Trust and Probate Section and the Marin County Bar Association, Trust and Probate Section. She earned her B.A. degree at Beloit College and her J.D. degree at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. ROBERT L. HARRISON is a partner in the San Rafael law firm of Keegin Harrison Schoppert Smith & Karner LLP. He is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Mr. Harrison has concentrated his practice in the areas of estate planning law, probate law, real estate law and business law since 1977. He is the author of "Problem Assets" (chapter 6) Complete Plans for Small and Mid-Sized Estates, Continuing Education of the Bar, 2006; and "Devises" (Chapter 20) California Transaction Forms, Estate Planning, West Group, 1999. December 6 - San Francisco AMIR ATASHI RANG is the principal of The Atashi Rang Law Firm in San Francisco. Mr. Atashi Rang focuses his practice on estate and tax planning, probate and trust administration, and tax controversy work. He is a frequent lecturer to attorneys on estate planning issues and has appeared at the State Bar of California's Annual Meeting and for other groups including the Barristers Club of the San Francisco Bar Association. Mr. Atashi Rang is the statewide chair of the Young Tax Lawyers Committee of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of California and a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco. He earned his B.S. degree from Santa Clara University, his J.D. degree from UC Hastings College of the Law, and his LL.M. degree in taxation from Golden Gate University. LAURENCE A. BLAU is a California board certified specialist in estate planning, trust and probate law. He is on the faculty of San Francisco City College where he teaches estate planning and estate administration. He has published a textbook called Fundamentals of California Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Mr. Blau is a regular panelist for CEB, conducting seminars throughout the state on various estate planning topics and also speaks at local bar association's section meeting. He received his B.A. degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, his J.D. degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law and his LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of Florida College of Law. REBECCA L. CACHIA-RIEDL is a sole practitioner in Alameda. Ms. Cachia-Riedl concentrates her practice on the area of estate planning. She is the secretary of the East Bay Estate Planning Council and a member of the East Bay Trusts and Estates Lawyers. Ms. Cachia-Riedl earned her B.A. degree, cum laude, from UCLA, her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of San Francisco School of Law and her LL.M. degree, with honors, from Golden Gate University. EMILIE M. CALHOUN is the principal of the San Francisco office of Fiduciary Law Attorneys. Since 1986, the focus of her practice has been on trust and estate litigation. Ms. Calhoun represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries involved in contentious trust or estate administration matters and conservatorships. She works on cases involving revocable and irrevocable trusts, probate estates, and contested conservatorships. Ms. Calhoun represents individuals in efforts to ward off litigation where possible, and in probate court and civil court proceedings when necessary.
