JONATHAN A. GRISSOM is an attorney in the San Diego law firm of Higgs, Fletcher & Mack LLP, where for the past eight years he has practiced in the areas of tax-exempt organizations, corporate law, closely held businesses and taxation. He co-wrote chapters of Advising California Non-profit Corporations, a second edition by the Continuing Education of the Bar of California (C.E.B.). Mr. Grissom has given talks at the California State PTA Annual Convention on exempt organizations, as well as other CLE presentations. In 2004 and 2005, he talked on the Nonprofit Integrity Act that was passed in 2004 in California. He earned his B.S. degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, his J.D. degree from the University of San Diego School of Law and his LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of California and the San Diego County and the American bar associations. Mr. Grissom also serves as chairman of the Board of Directors of a San Diego area nonprofit corporation. JEANNE M. MANN is a partner in the CPA firm of Withers & Mann LLP, in San Diego, where her areas of specialty are helping small business owners, manufacturers, construction firms and not-for-profit organizations be successful. As a state of California certified public accountant, Ms. Mann has actively participated in the statewide and local chapters of the California Society of CPA (CalCPA) since 1991. Over the last 17 years, she has served in most of the organization's management roles. Notably Ms. Mann served as the second woman president of the San Diego chapter of the CalCPA in its 40-year history. She is the co-creator of Audit Boot Camp, a successful initiative for young professionals. Ms. Mann has received numerous awards with the highlight being the San Diego County's Region IX Small Business Administration's 1998 Accountant Advocate of the Year, the California Society of CPAs 2001 Public Service Award and the 2001 San Diego Metropolitan's 40 under 40 Award. In July of 2005, she was a distinguished panel member at the NIH sponsored National SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) Phase II Conference. She earned her B.B.A. degree from Arizona State University. PATRICIA JO MAYER is the southern California regional not-for-profit tax expert at Moss Adams LLP, where she serves the needs of the Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego offices. She is a designated quality control reviewer of not-for-profit returns prepared by Moss Adams LLP. In addition, she is the quality control tax reviewer for all San Diego office not-for-profit audit reports. Ms. Mayer has specialized in tax and related tax planning with emphasis in not-for-profit organizations and private foundations, as well as complex high net worth individuals, closely held corporations and real estate development. She is a member of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, including AICPA Tax Division. Ms. Mayer serves on Moss Adams' Not-for-Profit Tax Committee. In this role, she has taught several tax-related seminars for Moss Adams not-for-profit tax professionals through Web-X and live seminars. She also has been a speaker at various not-for-profit seminars in the San Diego community sponsored by Moss Adams, as well as an instructor for National Business Institute relating to not-for-profit subjects. Ms. Mayer regularly attends tax-exempt organization seminars conducted by the Georgetown University Law Center and private foundation tax seminars sponsored by the Salk Institute. She is a current board member and treasurer for Kids on the Block San Diego, a non-profit organization, and currently serves on a Business Advisory Committee for the San Diego Foundation. Ms. Mayer earned her B.S. degree from San Diego State University. She is a senior tax manager at Moss Adams LLP, which is the 12th largest United States CPA firm.
