JAY A. HIEATT is a partner in the firm of Hall, Hieatt & Connely, LLP, in San Luis Obispo. He is experienced in medical malpractice, insurance defense, professional malpractice, personal injury, real estate, public entity defense and all phases of civil litigation. Mr. Hieatt lectures as part of the Cuesta College nursing program, and provides in-service training for nurses and health care professionals at local hospitals on topics ranging from advance directives and medical documentation to appropriately channeling criticism and EMTALA. Mr. Hieatt also teaches civil litigation as part of Cal Poly's Paralegal Certificate Program and civil liability/sexual harassment at Allan Hancock Law Enforcement Academy. MARTIN is an attorney at Snyder Law LLP, a civil litigation firm in Santa Barbara. Mr. Martin has a diverse practice in which he represents individual and corporate clients in a wide variety of civil matters, focusing primarily on real estate, land use, transportation and personal injury. More recently, he has defended clients in defamation litigation with an emphasis on anti-SLAPP protections and the interplay between First Amendment rights and emerging technologies. Mr. Martin is a member of the American and Santa Barbara County bar associations and the Santa Barbara Barristers, and he is an Associate in the William L. Gordon Inns of Court. He earned his B.S. degree in psychobiology from the University of California at Los Angeles and his J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law, with honors, in litigation and dispute resolution. ERIC J. PARKINSON is an attorney with Eric J. Parkinson, Attorney & Counselor at Law, located in San Luis Obispo. An accomplished attorney and litigator with more than 17 years of experience, Mr. Parkinson's business and civil litigation trial practice includes business law, personal injury, employment law and civil rights litigation. He has tried numerous cases in state and federal courts in California and has served as assistant city attorney for the city of Pismo Beach and the city of Morro Bay. Mr. Parkinson also is an accomplished appellate attorney with three published decisions. He earned his B.A. degree in political science from California Polytechnic State University and completed his J.D. degree at Golden Gate University School of Law. Mr. Parkinson is a member of the bar of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as a member of the bar of the U.S. District Court (all districts in California) and the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association. PATRICIA M. SCOLES is an attorney with the Law Offices of Patricia M. Scoles, A.P.C., in Paso Robles. She has significant experience in estate planning, trust administration, real estate, corporate and business law. Ms. Scoles began her legal career as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles trying criminal matters, and later moved to civil practice. She relocated to San Luis Obispo County in 1998. Ms. Scoles has significant jury trial experience, having tried in excess of 70 trials. Ms. Scoles earned her B.A. degree from California State University at Northridge and her J.D. degree from Loyola Marymount University. She is a member of the State Bar of California (member, Estate Planning and Real Estate sections), the San Luis Obispo County Bar Association, the Paso Robles Chamber of Commerce and the Templeton Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Scoles is admitted to practice in California and before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. DAVID S. VOGEL is a member of the Law Offices of David S.
