ERIC C. AWERKAMP earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, in accounting from Arizona State University in 1986 and his J.D. degree from J. Rueben Clark Law School in 1989, where he was a member of the Law Review. Upon graduation, Mr. Awerkamp joined the law firm of Beus, Gilbert & Morrill as a litigation associate. In 1993, he joined the law firm of Brown, Arenofsky, Squire & Sacco and practiced in the areas of workers' compensation and personal injury. In 1997, he opened his own practice and continues his practice in the areas of workers' compensation and personal injury. Mr. Awerkamp is a certified specialist in workers' compensation and a member of the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association. He is the past co-chair of the Workers' Compensation Section of the State Bar of Arizona. KIRK A. BARBERICH graduated from the University of Arizona School of Law in 1987. He is a partner with the firm of Klein, Doherty, Lundmark, Barberich & La Mont, P.C. Mr. Barberich is certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a specialist in the area of workers' compensation and has limited his practice to defending employers and carriers before the Industrial Commission of Arizona and appellate courts since 1990. He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona CLE Subcommittee. AVERY N. CROSSMAN has been practicing Arizona workers' compensation law since 1994. Ms. Crossman received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1989, from the University of Arizona and her Juris Doctorate degree in 1993, from Oklahoma City University. While in law school, Ms. Crossman was selected to be on staff for the Oklahoma City University Law Review and the Phi Delta Phi Honors Organization. She is a state bar board certified workers' compensation specialist and is past co-chair of the state bar Workers' Compensation Section. She has served as a faculty member at the State Bar seminar on professionalism and is a former judge pro tempore in the Arizona County, Justice, and Superior courts. In the past, she has spoken at seminars on workers' compensation sponsored by the Industrial Commission of Arizona and the Arizona Association of Lawyers for Injured Workers. Ms. Crossman is a long-time member of the Arizona Association of Lawyers for Injured Workers and is currently serving as its chairman. Ms. Crossman was selected for membership in Arizona's Finest Lawyers. This honor, which is peer-nominated, requires that the attorney demonstrate a commitment to advancing the rule of law, a record of high achievement, excellent legal skills, and a reputation for integrity. CHRISTOPHER S. NORTON is a shareholder at Lester & Norton, P.C. Mr. Norton has devoted 100% of his practice to the area of workers' compensation defense litigation since 2002. His legal career began as a workers' compensation defense attorney in Dallas, Texas, where he represented insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and self-insured employers before the Texas Division of Workers' Compensation and Texas District and Appellate Courts. In 2006, Mr. Norton moved to Phoenix, Arizona to open a new office. Since then, he has represented workers' compensation insurance carriers, self-insured employers, and third-party administrators before the Industrial Commission of Arizona and Arizona Appellate Courts. He has been active in the Arizona Self-Insured Association and the Arizona Workers' Compensation Claims Association. Mr. Norton graduated from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 2002. He is licensed in Texas and Arizona. JAMES B. STABLER is vice president and chief counsel of SCF Arizona Legal Division. Mr. Stabler earned his B.S. degree from Arizona State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Arizona. He served as judicial clerk for Arizona Supreme Court Justice Jack D.H. Hays; administrative law judge for the Industrial Commission of Arizona; judge pro tem for the Arizona Court of Appeals; and litigation attorney in the fields of personal injury insurance defense and workers' compensation defense. An AV rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell©, Mr. Stabler was a certified specialist in workers' compensation 1994-1999 and served on the Board of Legal Specialization Workers' Compensation Advisory Commission from 1989-2005. He is also a registered lobbyist for SCF and is a member of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce; the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) Public Affairs Committees; is chair of the GPCC Employee Relations Committee; and is a board member for Kids Chance of Arizona. HARRIET L. TURNEY joined the Industrial Commission of Arizona (ICA) in 1997. She has served as its chief administrative law judge since 1998. She was general counsel and chief bar counsel of the State Bar of Arizona (SBA) from 1986-1996. Ms. Turney was also a volunteer and staff attorney for the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct. She was the only administrative law judge to serve as a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Joint Commission Evaluating the Model Code of Judicial Conduct. Ms. Turney is a past chair of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Client Protection and the Center for Professional Responsibility Membership Committee. She is a past member of American Bar Association's Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs (CoLAP), the Center for Professional Responsibility Coordinating Council and the ABA Standing Committee on Professionalism. Ms. Turney was involved in the creation of the SBA Member Assistance Committee and was a member of the committee for more than 15 years. Ms. Turney has had 80 hours of formal mediation training. During her tenure as chief administrative law judge, she introduced mediation as an option to formal litigation in both workers' compensation and OSHA cases. She has mediated or co-mediated in more than 30 cases. Receiving a bachelor's degree in English, a master's degree in 17th century British literature from Kent State University, Ms. Turney earned her law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 1979. She has taught legal writing, ethics and professional responsibility for more than 20 years.
