HOPE KIRSCH is a managing partner with Kirsch-Goodwin & Kirsch, P.L.L.C. Ms. Kirsch was a special education teacher and school administrator for 17 years in New York City. She worked with children with developmental disabilities, autism, physical handicaps, learning disabilities and the severely and multiply-handicapped in a variety of settings, from special education classes in regular school to special education schools and hospitals. She obtained licenses and certifications as: Special Education Public School Teacher (New York State); Teacher of Health Conservation (New York City); Teacher of Emotionally Handicapped (New York City); Supervisor of Special Education (New York City); School Administrator/Supervisor (New York State) and Assistant Principal Special Education Day School (New York City). Ms. Kirsch earned her B.S. degree, cum laude, from Boston University, her M.A. degree from New York University, New York, New York and her J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School. LORI KIRSCH-GOODWIN is a partner with Kirsch-Goodwin & Kirsch, P.L.L.C., which has been listed in the Phoenix Business Journal for 2008-2009 as the top specialty law firm in special education. Ms. Kirsch-Goodwin has a special area of interest in advocating for special needs students and has first-hand experience as a parent of a special needs youngster. She began her practice in special education law after navigating her son's issues through the school system. Ms. Kirsch-Goodwin is a member of the Maricopa County and the American bar associations, the State Bar of Arizona and the Arizona Association of Defense Counsel. She earned her B.A. degree from Syracuse University and her J.D. degree from the University of Bridgeport School of Law. HEATHER R. PIERSON is an attorney with the firm of Udall, Shumway & Lyons, P.L.C., in Mesa where she focuses her practice primarily in the area of education law, representing school districts and charter schools throughout the state of Arizona. Prior to joining Udall, Shumway & Lyons, P.L.C., Ms. Pierson taught behavior disordered students. During her teaching career, she was involved in the development and implementation of IEPs and behavior plans, and attended several training sessions on special education interventions and strategies. Ms. Pierson received her B.A. and M.Ed. degrees from Arizona State University and her J.D. degree from Whittier Law School. She is a member of the State Bar of Arizona, the Arizona School Boards Association, the National School Boards Association, the Arizona Council of School Attorneys and the Special Education Administrators Association. JESSICA S. SANCHEZ is an attorney with the law firm of Udall, Shumway, & Lyons, P.L.C. She focuses her practice primarily in the area of education law, representing school districts and charter schools throughout the state. Prior to joining Udall, Shumway, & Lyons, P.L.C., she served as in-house legal counsel for the Scottsdale Unified School District. Ms. Sanchez has experience providing legal advice and representation to school districts on a broad range of matters, including but not limited to, student rights, civil rights, personnel and governing board liability issues. She has conducted many in-service training programs on a variety of topics, such as student records, staff ethics, public records, special education law and child abuse reporting guidelines. Ms. Sanchez earned her B.A. degree in political science from Northern Arizona University and graduated from the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. While in law school, she interned for a variety of agencies including the Arizona Attorney General's Office, the City of Phoenix Mayor's Office and the City of Phoenix Prosecutor's Office. She chaired the Street Law Pro Bono Project, a high school instructional program, and was a recipient of the Pro Bono Distinction Award. Ms. Sanchez is a member of the State Bar of Arizona, the Arizona Council of School Attorneys, the Arizona School Boards Association and the National School Boards Association. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Abogados Hispanic Bar Association. In her spare time, Ms. Sanchez volunteers for a number of youth outreach programs and serves on the Board of Directors for A Stepping Stone Foundation.
