PHEBE DUFF is the director of global employee relations for Heifer International, where she is responsible for working with both managers and employees on resolution of employment-related issues in the United States and 40 countries. Prior to joining Heifer International, Ms. Duff was a partner in the business services consulting firm Dextera and worked in corporate human resources management for close to 20 years for information technology and manufacturing/distribution companies. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan and her master's degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. MELVA HARMON is the principal of the Law Office of Melva Harmon in Little Rock. She has concentrated her practice in the areas of labor and employment, employment discrimination, employee benefits, mediation, arbitration, federal trials, and civil litigation since 1976. Ms. Harmon has been selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America for labor and employment law. She also is a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers. Ms. Harmon is president and member of the Labor Section and is a member of the Insurance Committee for the Arkansas Bar Association. She is a frequent lecturer at the Arkansas Bar Association's labor law seminar and for other professional groups. Ms. Harmon has contributed to the BNA publications Discipline and Discharge in Arbitration and How Arbitration Works, prepared by members of the American Bar Association. She is a member of the Labor and Employment Law Committee and the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association. Ms. Harmon also is a member of the Panel of Employment Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association and the National Association of Security Dealers. She earned her B.A. degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and her J.D. degree from the University of Texas at Austin. STEPHEN W. JONES is a senior partner in the Little Rock law firm of Jack Nelson Jones & Bryant, P.A., where he practices in the areas of labor and employment law, civil rights, and business litigation. Mr. Jones serves as editor of the Arkansas Employment Law Letter, M. Lee Smith Publishers, L.L.C. He also was a contributing editor of Employment Discrimination Law, Chapter 21, Schlei & Grossman, 2d Ed. Mr. Jones is a frequent lecturer on employment law and civil rights topics for various professional groups. He earned his A.B. degree, with high honors, from the University of Illinois and his J.D. degree, with high honors, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Mr. Jones is a fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and the Litigation Counsel of America, and is a member of the Arkansas (member, Employment and Labor Law Section) and American (member, Labor and Employment Law Section, Equal Employment Opportunity Law Committee; member, Litigation Section) bar associations. ELLEN M. SMITH is a partner in the Little Rock firm of Friday, Eldredge & Clark, LLP, where she practices in the areas of labor and employment law, and civil litigation. She has lectured to legal professionals and human resource professionals on labor and employment law issues. Ms. Smith earned her B.S. degree from Northwestern University and her J.D. degree, with honors, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law. She is a member of the American, Arkansas and Pulaski County bar associations, and volunteers in public schools. PERRY V. WHITMORE JR. has worked in every aspect of the insurance business, including underwriting, claims, management, sales and training. He is currently the corporate risk manager for Wehco Media, Inc. in Little Rock, where he has worked since 2003. Mr. Whitmore is responsible for managing insurance and safety and loss prevention for this company that is involved in newspaper publishing, cable TV, internet and telephone services. He earned a B.A. degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) and is an adjunct professor of insurance there, providing educational instruction to upper level students within the Economics & Finance Department. In addition, Mr. Whitmore has earned other advanced insurance studies designations.
