December 14 - Huntsville JEFFREY G. BLACKWELL is a partner at the law firm of Hornsby, Watson, Hornsby, Blackwell & McKown, where he practices in the areas of federal civil practice, civil appeals, chemical exposure, industrial accidents, products liability, occupational safety and health, trust litigation, workers' compensation, and workers' compensation appeals. He is a highly skilled and respected trial attorney and is a recognized expert in workers' compensation and is called regularly by sitting trial judges for consultation. Mr. Blackwell is a member of the Alabama State Bar and is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle districts of Alabama, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eleventh Circuit. ARTRIP is a partner with the law firm Watson, McKinney & Artrip, LLP, where he represents individuals injured both economically and physically. Over the past several years, Mr. Artrip has represented plaintiffs from all over the United States in a variety of consumer class actions against companies that have deceived and/or discriminated against their customers. He also represents the survivors and victims of accidents in a wide range of claims, including car and truck accidents; workplace accidents; accidents resulting from defective construction; and medical-related cases, including nursing home abuse and neglect. Mr. Artrip also provides representation in civil litigation involving business and commercial fraud. He has been a guest lecturer at legal education seminars and is a member of the executive board of the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Artrip is a member of the Huntsville Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and the American Association for Justice. He has worked on personal injury cases in counties throughout Alabama and Tennessee, and class actions in several states. GREGORY CARL COOK is co-chair of the business litigation practice group at Balch & Bingham LLP, where he has practiced since 1991. He was recently appointed co-chair of the ABA Class Action & Derivative Suits Committee. His practice centers on commercial litigation, with a concentration on complex litigation. Mr. Cook is a member of the firm's credit crisis group, a special team of lawyers working on challenges created by the current disruptions in the credit and other capital markets, including the sub-prime mortgage litigation wave. Since joining Balch & Bingham LLP in 1991, Mr. Cook has focused his practice in the area of business and financial services litigation, including concentrating on class action defense, where he was involved in defending more than 50 class actions. Over the past years, he also has handled other complex business litigation involving antitrust issues, non-competition agreements, computer software and trade secrets, minority shareholders oppression, and shareholder derivative suits, among others. More recently, Mr. Cook has defended a number of actions and class actions arising out of the mortgage and sub-prime crisis, including matters for loan services, lenders, title insurance agents and settlement services providers. In addition, his litigation practice has included a number of energy litigation matters, including much of the litigation concerning the western power crisis of 2000.
