LAURA M. AVERETTE holds a Master's of Science in nursing, in outcomes measurement and healthcare improvement, from the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She has practiced as a registered nurse for 20 years. Over the last ten years of her career, Ms. Averette has specialized in patient safety, healthcare risk management and malpractice claims management with a major health system. In 2008, she launched LegalNurse, Inc. and now practices as an independent legal nurse consultant, educating attorneys on the medical issues within their litigation, conducting medical related research and locating the hard to find medical expert. Since starting LegalNurse, Inc., Ms. Averette has developed long term relationships with attorneys and firms that specialize in medical malpractice, personal injury and other medical related litigation. In addition, she has spoken both locally and nationally on various medical issues related to litigation, educating risk managers, nurses, attorneys and paralegals. Ms. Averette earned her A.D.N. degree from Walker College, and her B.S.N. and M.S.N. degrees from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a member of the Alabama Society for Health Care Risk Management (interim president, March 2007 - March 2008; president, January 2008 - March 2009), the American Association of Legal Nurse consultants, the National Alliance for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, and the Greater Birmingham Legal Nurse Consultants (secretary, 2010). LOIS RENE BEASLEY-CARLISLE is a partner in the Birmingham firm of Carlisle & Carlisle, P.C., where her main areas of practice are bankruptcy, workers' compensation, personal injury, Social Security, wills and deeds, and general practice. She has an associate degree in paramedic sciences and has been licensed as a registered nurse for more than two decades. Ms. Beasley-Carlisle is a past adjunct professor at the University of Alabama and she has spoken to various professional groups on her areas of practice. She earned her B.S.N. degree from the University of Alabama, her M.P.H. degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law of Samford University. Ms. Beasley-Carlisle is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and The Florida Bar. She also is the former president of the Tarrant Chamber of Commerce, former acting municipal judge for Tarrant, and an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau. KATHIE W. CONDON started her nursing career as a licensed practical nurse in 1972 in Jackson, MS. In 1980, she decided to go back to school to be able to take the registered nurse state boards. She received an AD degree from Mississippi Delta Community College in 1982 and passed her boards a few months later. Ms. Condon was employed by University Hospital from 1984 to 2002. She worked at UAB Hospital as a staff nurse, educator and nurse manager during this time. She continued to work while attending school at UAB from 1987 to 1992. She received her BSN degree in 1991 and her MSN degree in 1992, both from University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2002, she retired from University Hospital and started her own company. Condon Medical Legal Consultants was started to assist attorneys in litigation that had medical issues attached. In 2005, Mrs. Condon became certified as a nursing specialist in legal nurse consulting. LNCC is the only certification recognized by the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants and accredited by the American Board of Nursing Specialties. CAROL A. GAMBLE is currently a legal nurse consultant specializing in life care planning. She is a degreed professional with 36 years experience in medical-surgical nursing in several diverse hospital settings. Eight of the 36 years were in administrative nursing involving supervisory positions. Her last 20 years in the hospital clinical setting were on a sub-intensive care medical-surgical unit. During the past three years, Ms. Gamble has assisted several attorneys with medical malpractice cases as an independent certified legal nurse consultant. Ms. Gamble is a graduate of the University of Alabama School of Nursing, with a B.S. degree in nursing. She is currently president of the Greater Birmingham Chapter of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.
