HON. CARL J.D. BAUMAN is a Superiour Court judge for the State of Alaska at Kenai. Judge Bauman was appointed by Governor Sarah Palin in 2007. Prior to taking the bench, he was the managing partner at Hughes Bauman Pfiffner Gorski & Seeddorf, LLC in Anchorage, a firm he was with for more than 33 years. Judge Bauman has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Alaska Bar Association's Family Law Section. He earned his B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Oregon. HON. MARK RINDNER has been a Superiour Court judge for the State of Alaska at Anchorage since January 2001. Prior to that, Judge Rindner was the partner-in-charge of the Anchorage office of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky LLP. He also was an associate for Munger, Tolles & Olson, an assistant United States attorney, and a law clerk to the Honorable James M. Fitzgerald. Judge Rindner earned his J.D. degree from the University of California at Berkeley. He has been a member of the Alaska Bar since 1980 and received the Alaska Bar Association's Distinguished Service Award in 2000, and the Pro Bono Service Award in 1997. HON. ERIC SMITH has been a Superiour Court judge for the State of Alaska at Palmer since 1996. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Smith was executive director of trustees for Alaska and had practiced as a sole practitioner, with a focus on environmental and native issues. He is a member of the Khabarovsk-Alaska Rule of Law Steering Committee, providing technical assistance to Russian judges and attorneys in the Khabarovsk region. He also is a member of the Alaska Supreme Court Fairness and Access Implementation Committee and chairs its Alternative Dispute Resolution Task Force. Judge Smith earned his B.A. degree from Swarthmore College and his J.D. degree from Yale Law School. HON. VANESSA H. WHITE has been a Superiour Court judge for the State of Alaska at Palmer since 2007. Prior to taking the bench, Judge White was an attorney in private practice for more than 18 years. She earned her B.A. degree from Knox College and her J.D. degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law. MODERATOR - KENNETH M. GUTSCH has practiced in the area of insurance defense since 1988. Mr. Gutsch has practiced with Richmond & Quinn since 1995. His practice is concentrated in the areas of personal injury litigation, insurance coverage disputes, products liability, construction disputes and professional liability. Mr. Gutsch earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Knox College and his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Law Review and Moot Court team. He is a member of the Alaska and American bar associations, and the Defense Counsel of Alaska.
