The brain is one of the most complex organs in the body and when it sustains an injury, it may not be readily apparent. Handling the complex medical issues in these cases requires an understanding of anatomy, mechanisms of injury, diagnosis, treatment and potential disabilities related to this type of trauma. MICHELLE POWERS is a nurse attorney with The Law Offices of McCallum & Powers in Greenwood, South Carolina, where she maintains a general law practice with an emphasis in disability appeals before the Veterans Administration and Social Security Administration. Ms. Powers earned her J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar. She earned her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Lander University. Ms. Powers is a Registered Nurse in South Carolina. Her bedside nursing experience includes maternal-child, emergency, and cardio-thoracic intensive care. Ms. Powers also served as clinical instructor for Lander University, where she trained nursing students in hands-on care in both the laboratory and clinical setting.
