V. JOHN ELLA is of counsel with Jackson Lewis LLP, a national law firm practicing exclusively in management side labor and employment law. His areas of practice include employment litigation, wage and hour compliance, ERISA, trade secrets, executive compensation and drug testing law. Mr. Ella earned his B.A. degree from Tufts University and J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Minnesota. He was an adjunct legal writing instructor at the University of Minnesota Law School. Mr. Ella has written numerous articles and frequently lectures on litigation and related issues to various business and professional groups. He is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and Federal bar associations. PHYLLIS KARASOV is a partner with the law firm of Moore, Costello & Hart, P.L.L.P., where her practice includes representation of both individuals and employers in all facets of employment law, including labor union matters, wage and hours issues, employee benefits, discrimination and sexual harassment. She is a Minnesota State Bar Association Board Certified Specialist in Labor and Employment Law. Ms. Karasov earned her B.A. degree from the University of Rochester and J.D. degree from Emory University. She has served on the faculties of several continuing legal education programs and also has written several legal articles on corporate, labor and employment law. Ms. Karasov served on the Board of Directors of the Minnesota State Bar Association and is a past president of the Ramsey County Bar Association. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. PHILLIP J. TROBAUGH is a shareholder in the Minneapolis law firm of Mansfield Tanick & Cohen, P.A., where he practices in the areas of civil litigation and employment law, in addition to chairing the firm's education law department. He is licensed to practice in all courts in Minnesota and the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Trobaugh has taught as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota School of Law and the Hamline University School of Law. He earned his J.D. degree from Hamline University School of Law, where he was production editor of the Hamline Journal of Public Law and Policy and was a recipient of the Stevens Brothers scholarship. Mr. Trobaugh is an honors graduate from Ripon College in Wisconsin, studied at American University and was a congressional intern. Among his most recent titles are "Student Websites: 1st Amendment Issues & Challenges," "Another One Drives the Bus - School Bus Law in Minnesota," "The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - Basics of a Bright IDEA," "Re-employment Insurance: Ten Tips for Claimants and Employers at Re-employment Appeal Hearings," "Ten Tips for Dealing with Workplace Problems for Educational Personnel," and "Top Ten Tips for Workplace Success." Mr. Trobaugh is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Hennepin County Bar Association (co-chair, The Hennepin Lawyer Committee), "LawCall" radio program on KLBB AM-1400 (executive producer) and the Hennepin County Bar Foundation (president). NANCY B. VOLLERTSEN is chair of the labor and employment law group in the law firm of Lindquist & Vennum PLLP, in Minneapolis. Ms. Vollertsen's practice encompasses labor and employment law and local government law. She has extensive experience in all aspects of employment law in the public and private sectors. Ms. Vollertsen advises clients on employment and severance agreements, reductions in force, employment termination, discipline and discharge issues, prevention and defense of employment claims and litigation. She also handles labor contract negotiation and arbitration and has mediated employment law matters. Ms. Vollertsen earned her B.A. degree from the University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts and her J.D. degree from the University of Iowa Law School. She is a member of the State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense, the State of Minnesota Job Service Employers Committee, the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the American Bar Association (Labor and Employment Section, Practice Management Section and Health Law Section), the Minnesota Council of School Attorneys, the NPELRA and MPELRA. Ms. Vollertsen served as president of the Olmsted County Bar Association and chair of the Minnesota Supreme Court's Client Security Board. She is a frequent speaker on labor and employment issues.
