HON. STEVEN E. MARTIN is a judge with the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas. He was appointed to the bench by Governor George Voinovich on December 16, 1996. He was then elected in 1998 and reelected in 2000 and 2006. Judge Martin was selected as the Trial Judge of the Year in 1999. Since September 1, 2008, he and one of his colleagues, has been a commercial docket judge for Hamilton County under a pilot program set up by the Ohio Supreme Court, having been so appointed by Chief Justice Thomas Moyer. Prior to his appointment to the bench, Judge Martin was in the civil and criminal practice of law both with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office and with a medium sized local law firm. He received his undergraduate degree in accounting and his juris doctor degree from Indiana University.

HON. BETH A. MYERS was appointed to the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas in June 2003 and was elected in November 2004 and again in November 2008. Judge Myers presides over a wide variety of cases, including felony criminal matters and civil matters. In addition to her other duties, she recently was appointed to serve as a Commercial Docket Judge for a state-wide pilot program established by the Supreme Court of Ohio. Prior to her appointment, Judge Myers was a partner in the law firm of Frost Brown Todd (formerly Frost & Jacobs), where she practiced for 21 years in the litigation department. She served as president of the Cincinnati Bar Association in 2005-2006. Judge Myers also served on the Executive Committee and the Nominating Committee, as well as the Board of Trustees. She was co-chair of the 2008 Bench-Bar Conference. Judge Myers previously served on the Administration and Finance Committee, the Grievance Committee and the Ethics Committee, and was Treasurer of the CBA for three years. She currently serves on the Ohio State Bar Association's statewide Pro Bono Committee Task Force, whose purpose is to establish a statewide network of locally based committees to promote and facilitate pro bono opportunities for lawyers. Judge Myers has been active in the community and currently is a member of the Board of Visitors of the University of Cincinnati College of Law and the Miami University Pre-Law Advisory Board. Prior to taking the bench, she served on the Board of Trustees of Deaconess Hospital, Deaconess Foundation (chairman of the board), Cincinnati Association for the Blind, University of Cincinnati Foundation, UCATS and the Greater Cincinnati Hospital Commission. Judge Myers previously served as president of the Alumni Association at the University of Cincinnati. She was a member of Leadership Cincinnati, Class XXIII, and was named one of the Business Courier's 40 Under 40. Judge Myers' awards include the Hamilton County Trial Lawyers Association 2005 Trial Judge of the Year, the Cincinnati Bar Association Community Service Award, the 2005 University of Cincinnati College of Law Nicholas Longworth III Achievement Award, the University of Cincinnati Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award, and the Employer Excellence Award for Outstanding Recruiting Performance from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. She is a member of the Cincinnati Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Common Pleas Judges Association. Judge Myers is an active participant in the Inn of Court and the Ohio Judicial Conference, where she serves on the Civil Law and Procedure Committee.

HON. MARK P. PAINTER was elected to the Ohio First District Court of Appeals in 1994 and re-elected without opposition in 2000 and 2006. Previously, he served as a trial judge for 13 years. In March 2009 he was elected by the General Assembly of the United Nations for a seat on the United Nations Appeals Tribunal. He is the only American on the seven-member court. Judge Painter attended the University of Cincinnati. He earned a B.A. degree in 1970 and a J.D. degree in 1973. He practiced law for nine years before becoming a judge, mostly with a firm that later became part of Thompson Hine. Judge Painter is recognized as an outstanding legal scholar. To date nearly 400 of Judge Painter's decisions have been published nationally, making him one of the most-published judges ever. Judge Painter is the coauthor of Ohio Driving Under the Influence Law, now in its 19th edition, the only textbook on DUI in Ohio. He is coauthor of another legal treatise, Ohio Appellate Practice. He has written three law review articles and 130 articles for other journals. His book on plain legal writing, The Legal Writer: 30 Rules for the Art of Legal Writing, was published in 2002, and sold out within a year. The Legal Writer 2nd Edition: 40 Rules for the Art of Legal Writing was published in 2003. The new fourth edition came out in 2009. He has lectured at more than 220 seminars for the Ohio Judicial College, the Ohio State Bar Association, Professional Education Systems Institute, the National Institute for Trial Advocacy, and countless firms and bar associations nationwide. In 2008, he traveled to Malaysia as one of four invited experts on plain-language legal writing.

PROFESSOR ANDREW POLLIS is a member of the faculty of Case Western Reserve University School of Law - Kramer Law Clinic. Professor Pollis joined the faculty in 2008 as a visiting assistant professor. Before his appointment, Professor Pollis practiced law for 18 years in the litigation department of the Cleveland-based law firm of Hahn Loeser & Parks LLP. In private practice, he focused extensively on appellate and general commercial litigation, and was one of the first 11 lawyers certified as an Ohio appellate law specialist when that certification was first introduced in Ohio in 2008. He lectures frequently on appellate law issues and co-authored (with Judge Mark Painter) the 2008-09 edition and the forthcoming 2009-10 edition of Ohio Appellate Practice (Thomson/West). Professor Pollis teaches in the Civil Litigation and Mediation Clinic in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic Center, hearkening back to his roots as a law student at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau. He also teaches appellate practice.
